Anyone shooting 600 yards with 24x scope?

Have read quite a bit on scopes being used for 600 yard f-class and there seems to be quite a mix.

Is anyone here using a 24x scope? Which? Thoughts?

I have used one for 600-1000 yards. I prefer my 12-42 NF BR. If I was Tac shooting a variable to 20 -24 power is fine. For Target my NF all the way.

My boy uses a 25x Leupold and does pretty good but he's got young eyes. I need more.

I used a Bushnell Elite ET6245FG 6-24 for 2 years. I then went to a Nightforce 12-42 BR, and now to a 2013 Competition 15-55 (mainly for weight savings, nothing wrong with the BR). The 24x was a decent scope, but I much prefer the higher magnification.

My thoughts? If it was a question of budget and I needed more magnification for cheap, I would have been shooting a Weaver T-36.

When I started (late 2013) I used a 12x on an AR at 600 (1/2 MOA clicks). Worked ok (scores in the 170s) and was enough to get me hooked, but I purchased a Vortex PST 6-24x over the winter and used for a number of matches this summer. Hard to know if I got better or the scope was better (likely both) but that 24x was good enough to use (and take home the trophy) in my State's MR (600) and LR (1000) FTR Championships. (Disclaimer: I also switched to a bolt gun - Sav FTR 308). But, the power was fine. Even though I strongly resisted the notion that 1/8 moa clicks were highly valuable, the main issue I ran into was the 1/4 moa clicks on that scope, on occasion, cost me points.

Ditto. I was using .1 Mil clicks. It was tough some days.

Thanks for the great replies.

Ihave a buddy that uses a nf 8-32 with the np2 reticle. To be honest I'm not impressed with the glass or the reticle. I really like the Sightron 8-32 with fine crosshairs for just target work but I'll probably use this rifle for field or practical type shooting as well.

I run a pst with the ebr1 reticle on a hunting rifle and really like it. the glass is bright and clear and I love the reticle.

Everything costs something, versatility usually hurts any one function, need to do a little more digging.

I started shooting long range BR with a used Sightron SII 6-24 scope. It worked fine for me.

Then my wife got me a N-F 12-42 and I took off the Sightron.
Well, I built another 7mm gun and put the N-F on it and put the Sightron back on the 6BRX. It amazed me how well I could shoot with that scope!
This weekend I shot a 600 yd club match and used the 6BRX for light gun and the 284 WIN for Heavy gun. Well, there is a difference!

I believe the 6-24 is more than adequate as the relatively fat cross hair is easy to align on both 600 yd and 1000 yd targets. In any case, it's a moot point as my lovely wife is giving me a Sightron SIII 10-50 scope for Christmas! The higher power allows one to aim for a particular point on the X!

My buddy entered his first ever 600 yard match last weekend at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center, and took home two 2nd place and two 3rd place ribbons. He was shooting a Savage 6mm BR with a Tasco 16X fixed scope. I'd say if you are a good enough shooter, you can do pretty well with limited magnification.

She must have a boyfriend, never heard of a woman buying competition scopes before. Lol Your a lucky man.

I used my scopes at 22X for F-Open all the way to 1000 yards until I had my cataracts fixed. Now I can shoot at 40-55X conditions permitting; but 22X was plenty to hold good elevation on the target even at 1000 yards. I was using a March and a NF BR, at the time, so both scopes had good glass. I looked through a low cost 24X a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't see much so there's more than the magnification to be considered.

I have a theory, give a man a variable scope and come back a year later and check and it will be on the highest power. This is somewhat of an exaggeration and it also depends on the application but we all want all we can use and then sometimes we want more. This is one of those things that comes with experience but somewhere in the 18 to 24 range will work for most cases and this is a good area to start with until you gain experience and can answer the question for yourself.

32x used by a pretty good shooter :)

Does she have a single sister that is just as giving. I could use several scopes...and guns for that matter..lol

I have a Viper PST 6-24 on my 600 yd F class rifle and went to a SIII 10-50 on my 1000 yd rifle. Eventually you'll want more magnification. I'm happy with both scopes adjustment wise, but thinking of getting an 8-32 for 600 shooting. Vortex is working on a new higher power scope for target shooting. I think that I will wait and see what they come out with.

+1 to more magnification. 20x+ is doable for 600y, but more is better. I'm happy with 30-40x at 600y, but I don't shoot farther.

I've been keeping my eyes out for a weaver T-36.
