Nothing wrong with the 260, its a great round. I'm just a 260AI fan boy, lol! 44gr H4831 has always shot amazing for me and other across dozens of barrels and rifles.
260AI will be my choice when I rebarrel my 260. I'd like to see what it does with those 153.5gr Berger's.Nothing wrong with the 260, its a great round. I'm just a 260AI fan boy, lol! 44gr H4831 has always shot amazing for me and other across dozens of barrels and rifles.
Not to derail this thread with pics and AI info, but check my posts in the "260AI Roll Call" thread. I shoot the 153.5 in F/open and it does just fine.260AI will be my choice when I rebarrel my 260. I'd like to see what it does with those 153.5gr Berger's.
I concurBerger 130 Hybrids are the easy button for .260 at mag length. They will shoot enough faster than a 140 gr to almost close the ballistic gap between them. This at mag length. They also are easy to tune and very jump tolerant. I have shot them out 1400 yards with very good accuracy.
Just curious,I shot the 260s in LR comps for years until I went to the 6.5x284 then the 284. I really liked the 123 Lapua's in my last couple of rifles. I still have one I use for coyote and deer hunting. Very accurate and a great round.
The new Lapua 144 Max range should be on your radar. I've not used them yet as I have still have 400 or so Berger 144 LRHT to get through, but then I'll be trying them and expecting similar results to the Bergers.I might have to give them a try. I like the 142gr SMK. The biggest issue is the Bergers are are at least 70% more expensive over here.
Yes, I'd forgotten about them. My Tikkas do seem to like Lapua bullets. They're significantly cheaper than Bergers here too.The new Lapua 144 Max range should be on your radar. What twist is your Savage?I have 3 260"s, one a stock Savage 10 and as second Savage rebarrelled with a 28" Brux They both are 1/4 MOA with Barnes 145's and H4350 or N160. The third is an AR10 that I built for CMP AtR Tactical competition -- I'm still working with it. I'm able to make 1 MOA, but struggling to get it to 1/2. I haven't had the time to work a load for it.
All are1:8.What twist is your Savage?
I love the 284 and as long as I still shoot to a 1000+yds I will always have one. They are very accurate and I can get damn near twice the rounds out of a barrel compared to the 6.5x284. I shoot the 162ELDs in mine and or the 175SMKs depending on where I can get a good deal or whichever one shoots the best in that rifle. I have shot out to a mile with the 162s 20x40" steel target and hit it 5 out of 8 times. The only reason for my misses was due to wind calls. Recoil is not bad and if you are sensitive to it a brake really does cut it down or even a can but then the damn thing gets so long with a can. All of mine have been really easy to get to shoot too.Just curious,
How do you like the .284 compared to the 6.5x284?
