Yes. If your bolt isnt the culprit. Once you get it bushed youll knowAha ! So that means the bullet wont be aimed down the center of the bore!!! The chamber would have to be awfully crooked to deflect primer that much in such a short distance?
I second Keystone, good guy.I'm not sure if he does bushing of bolts, but John Scandale at Keystone Accuracy would do a great job if he did. You could call and see.
That looks like most stock 700's I've worked with....it's a long way from being over pressure.
While I don't think you'll see any big accuracy improvements, correcting it makes a lot of sense.
Good shootin'. -Al
That looks pretty normal for a factory Remington. When you add up all of the variables, ie bolt clearance, action threads off center with bolt way, case head clearance, firing pinhole of enter, etc, that is what you get.
bushing the firing pin hole and getting the clearance right sure won’t hurt anything, and will cure the cratering.
Cratering with a sloppy firing pin fit is not a good indication of pressure. From the amount of outside radius still te singing on the primer, you are not in any kind of high pressure situation..
Looks much better to me. Get out and shoot it so we can all cheer.Got my bolt back from Gerry today! Sure looks nice! I test fired 4 primed cases on the right compared to 4 on the left pre-fix. Hard to tell but does look like centering improved. Will post some fired with a load once I get some loaded up and back fm range.View attachment 1347385View attachment 1347387
Now you can use mo powder.

what about the ejector mark? also when I resized a couple of the cases in the pic it was noticeably harder, esp with my hand press. I assume I am just looking at reduced case life. They look fine to me. Sounds like you found a good load.
