Anyone have info on the Savage LH bolt conversion from SSS.

I just bought a used Savage 12 Benchrest 6BR from the FS section. I plan on having SSS tune and true the action and install their Evolution trigger. The rifle has dual ports and I'm LH. For another $90 SSS will convert the RH bolt to a LH bolt.

Question is how clean is the conversion and how bad it mutilates the internals of the bolt & action. If anyone has seen or had this done I'd love to hear from you.

Contact Savage Custom shop, ask for Effie, she can fix you up with a Savage PTA in Left-hand. A little pricey but a real left-hand version.

Well I am already getting the used Savage 12. I've been talking to a guy from this board with 2 conversions by Fred and he's had good results so I think I'm going to do it. If I'm gonna spend big money on a new left bolt action it will be a custom one.

I have had several done and he does do good work on the actions. I have since sold them and moved to customs mainly for the triggers that are available. While the evolution is a nice trigger it isn't a jewel or bix. Most likely you can order a custom today (borden is about 4 months) and have it before you will get your savage action back. In all my dealings with them I always got a good product but it was never on time. Expect to wait 3-5 times as long as Lisa tells you.

Ouch, 3-5 times as long. Guess I need to get on it and ship it out as soon as it gets in if I want it for the Spring, I'm not too concerned about shooting in the middle of winter. I do have a buddy with a sweet shooting room that has a window that open allowing you to shoot 100-300 yards from inside the heat.
