Anyone have a Dillon order waiting...????

Ok wow , I was over at Dillon's webpage last night and was thinking about ordering a new scale.... After looking at their lead times I will just wait , no problem and I don't want to add to anybody's wait time.....

I saw 2-3 weeks wait on some things , that's no big deal or deal breaker for me.... But some things like dies or even some presses say 48 weeks....Is this a typo and should say 4-8 weeks.???? If not good grief , things are worse than I thought....

It was difficult to understand the current demand for loading equipment, when there is so little available
in the way of components, especially primers.
At least, it was, until a not particularly close acquaintance called me, asking if I would sell him components.
He hadn't even bothered to check into all that before ordering a very nice progressive press setup, based only on asking his friends what equipment they were using. Somehow, my name got mentioned to him.
He only wanted "A few thousand each, of primers, bullets, brass, and powder -just to get started; no one else wants to sell him any".
Any guesses what my answer was?

This is in no way any criticism of Dillon. They are the Gold Standard of Customer Support.
I've had several decades of nothing but outstanding service (Free parts replacement, etc.) from them.
Hornady and RCBS have also been exemplary, in my experience.

That's kinda my point , why in the world would people be ordering reloading equipment when components are harder and honestly more expensive than factory ammo before it's over with shipping and gas etc.... I know it happens everytime just like after Sandy Hook. Right after you get get some good deals on stuff when people realized what it takes to get half way good at loading vs just buying factory ammo... Most people don't have the time or are just to lazy.... If that lead time of 48 weeks is correct people are buying everytime as fast as they can....At least it will be a pretty paper weight and a dang good one... I saw some Lee pistol dies for $75 a set yesterday...

My brother ordered a press and 3 dies, and all the other
stuff they talked him into when he was ordering. He has got the press,
latest 1, bigger and better than all the rest of the 1s they have made.
No kidding...he went all out...he still ain't got 2 of the dies he ordered
and a few extras they sold him. This was ordered the first of January...
what makes this so bad...he has never loaded the first round of
anything on a single stage press...lol It really ain't funny and.I done my best to talk him out of ordering it. I really don't know what all they talked him into buying. BUT...he got the best they had...lol

Give the good folks at Dillon a cal and ask if it's a typo or not.
It's no big deal Pat and I don't even want to waste their time... I have two scales and was just thinking about it anyway... I was just shocked when I saw that.... I knew things were bad , just didn't know how bad....

I think he will pick up on it pretty fast.... Dillon is easy to use and figure out.... It doesn't take long to spend a dollar with them.... When I ordered mine I ended up making a few more orders before I was done.... I haven't regretted ever.... I would love to add their shotshell reloader to the other side of the bench.... Unfortunately I think the wife would kill me and I would need to build a bigger bench...lol. Right now I have a MEC sizemaster fixed were I can set it up and use clamps to hold it down when using it.... You never have enough bench space....

I can say it's not typos. I ordered a complete quick change including dies back in January. Called a week ago and asked about my order. What was quoted as 12 to 14 weeks when I ordered has turned into "maybe by January of 1922. ONE YEAR AND NO GUARANTEE OF IT THEN!! Was told getting carbide for the dies was the hold up. Oh well......

i ordered wrong 550 conversion kit earlier this year and so sent it back with an order form for a credit and ordered a 44 mag die set with intructions to charge my cc the difference. havent seen anything- thats not a typo-- i just hope im in the que. its no big deal for me cause ive got the stuff but its tge wrong time 2 start for sure.

In the last year, I got some of the things I ordered from them faster than the quoted times on their web site, other stuff is still pending.

Dies seem to be one of the worst lead times if they are carbide, but they sent some regular ones easy enough.

I have had my own machines for many decades, but one reason that I can guess is that several friends who have asked me to help them get set up are folks who never considered reloading before and are now being forced into it by the shortages and prices. There are a lot of them near me.

These are pistol guys who shoot the action games and had always just bought their ammo in bulk. In CA, we got cut off from simple ammo mail ordering a few years ago and that had some impact. Most of the pistol guys found ways to buy local and just pay the tax and higher prices, till now...

Many said they would still not reload bulk 9mm or 45 ACP when they could buy it locally, even if the prices and taxes were high.

Once their suppliers let them down, they went into a scramble to be able to make their own ammo in order to stay in their game.

I have my friends covered till their own equipment orders are complete or they are temporarily running with regular dies or borrowed stuff for now.

So one factor that contributed to this was all the CA folks who got cut off from mail ordering their bulk pistol ammo even before the 2020 crunch, then things got even worse with politics and riots and the shortages forced everyone to reconsider.

Funny how old "friends" come out of the woodwork isn't it. Had a guy I worked some shutdowns with 5 or 6 years ago call me when this all started. Knew I shot and reloaded. Told me he'd appreciate it if I could help him out with some 223. Just a couple hundred rounds! Bet I told him the same you told your friend!

just looking at dillons backlog list it seems like most things are only a few weeks, except dies. machines with dies are the ones backlogged long periods. Must be something they can’t get, like people are talking about the carbide.

Same here.......When I ordered it was 8-12 weeks wait and I ordered. Now it says 48 weeks and they have my money. I hope the Dillon’s products are worth the wait.:(

I ordered an XL750 without dies on Thursday April 15th, website stated wait time was 16 weeks. Caliber conversion kit shipped same day and was delivered Sat. Received tracking number for press on Fri and it was delivered the following Monday.

Their dies are the hold up but I don't need them to use my press.

It's not a typo. If you want Dillon, you will have to wait. I have bought a bunch of stuff from them since January, and their estimated wait times are very accurate. Right now I'm a 27 weeks and counting for .45 and 9mm dies. Late August or September is the target date. But, in the interim, I found 4 calibers of Lee dies and am cranking out some nice rounds.

If you order a press with dies, long wait.

Press without dies, short wait.

Their carbide supplier is way behind.

China and Russia are the world's main suppliers of tungsten. which is essential to make carbide.
China greatly reduced their exports of carbide last year, and Russia is also no friend of the USA.
Tungsten is at the top of most countries lists of endangered/short supply industrial metals.
