Anyone got any suggestions for .300 Remington Ultra Mag loads.

I have a friend who inherited a 700 BDL in 300 RUM. He has a hard time finding ammo, but has 100 rounds of brass, wanting to know a good load for 165 and 180 gr bullets. I know Retumbo, H1000, H870 would probably be good powders, I don't have any of these. Just trying to help a buddy out with getting him started loading for deer/elk hunting with this rifle. all feedback appreciated.

Mine likes 94.0grs Retumbo with 195gr TMK's or ELD-X and Rem 9 1/2M 28" barrel. Just a touch under 3000fps. with good SD and ES. Start lower on the charge to be safe.

Lacking any/all of the above, H-4831SC, or, regular granule, should provide excellent groups and enough velocity that the bullet of choice will not bounce off of an elk. o_O;) RG

With 165-180 grain bullets definitely go with H1000, great accuracy and velocity with the two I had.
Retumbo will give higher velocities but you do use more of it.
I have used 4831 with the 165's, shot them at 3400+ fps with good groups.

Be careful with Retumbo. I used to use 94.0 grains with 200 Accubonds and then when I changed lots I blew primers out and trashed the brass. Had to reduce to 91.0 grains and never could get the speeds of that older lot.

Here are the powders I use for my 300s with 220-245s grain bullets. N570/N568 are my go to powders for the Berger 245 LRHT, I like Retumbo for my 230 A-tips and H1000 and H4831SC for 225 ELDM and Berger 220 LRHT.
Retumbo
H1000
N568
N570
H4831SC

WC 872, US 869, RL33, RL 25. The OP mentioned H870, Hodgdon had run out of H870 just as the 300RUM was coming out, I so wish I had a stash of this stuff hidden away some where.

I shot some WC 872 with some flat base 225 grain Sierra hunting bullets out of a 338 LAP that was almost a BR sized group.

My Rem 700 likes my lot of Retumbo at 92.5 grains using a Fed 215Mag primer pushing a 200 Nosler AB. My go to elk round.
