Anyone Build a 6x47 Remington Ackley?

Had one of those back in the day, late 70's. At times it was very accurate but sometimes it wasn't which now that I think about it pretty much describes every benchrest chambering I know about. I used to shoot 26 to 26.2 of H4895 oldschool stuff and had some loads with H322 again oldschool powder. Today you could back off of that 4895 load a grain or so and give it a go. That was with 62grain bullets made by Clarence Detsch.

I will most likely use an 8 twist. I can get more fps out of my .223 Ackley with 55 grain bullets than 3,300. I have a .222x35* that shoots 52 grain Burgers at 3,400. Love the small caliber stuff!

be sure to use a zero freebore chamber and you will be ok for use with a 55g bullet.

We shot a lot through two 40x regular 27" barrels, with H335 and 60g Sierra's at 3400 fps, we got many, many thousands of rounds through the barrel.

55g Sierra Blitz kings are unreal accurate and explosive!

I will be using heavier bullets than 55 grain.

I have a 1:8, 22" 6x45AI that would be slightly less capacious than the 6-222AI.
~25gr of H322 easily pushes an 87Vmax(moly) to 2875fps. Haven't been out west to pop p-dogs with it, but it does good on 'chucks out to 550-ish...

That sized case has alot to offer as a p-dog rifle. Really liked my straight 6x45 with 70Bkings for p-dogs, but the wind would become fickle, past 400 or so. If/when I get out for p-dogs again, will definitely have the 6x45AI along! Those 87s plow the wind mo' betta, and should still allow for sufficient praire jell-O upon impact... :)

Have fun!

Anyone else do this? Looking for load info. Using it for prairie dogs.

Centershot, we shot the same case on a 22 caliber and 6mm caliber. HUGE PROBLEM: Remington brass will not take any pressure. AT the accuracy node, we lost the primer pockets in two firings.

I am about to start playing with a 6-223 AI using good solid strong brass and I think that I will be able to equal the 6x47 AI due to strength of the brass, IMI, Lapua, and NEW lake city.

Brass quality is definitely all over the place. Also be careful with H4895. It works perfect in those cases but is VERY unforgiving and will kill primer pockets with zero warning if you even go slightly too high. I went to a match with new brass for my 6x45 and came home with 60 once fired cases with that wouldn't hold a primer again with no signs of pressure on the fired primers.
But all in all a 6x45 or any of those basic variants are a blast to shoot! An 8" or 9" twist with 95gr SMK's performs quite well to 600 yards or so.

I was trying to compare my creation with the 6 mm BR. Any thoughts? It seems as though the 6x47 has more velocity with the same bullet. It is nice that the 6 BR does not need any case forming.

6x47 aka 6mmx222Mag or 6x47 Lapua??? The 6x47 on the 222Mag case won't stay with a BR. Slightly less case capacity and the small bolt face diameter will never handle the pressure a BR case will. At least not for more than 1 shot...

I have not built the "project" yet. Actually, I am shifting gears and building a 6 TCU. Easier to find brass with about the same results.
