Anybody shoot Nosler Partitions for long range hunting?

P.S to my above post,...
I do agree that they are a very well constructed bullet and I have used them with great success on Elk and bears, here in the blue mountains of S.E Washington state and Northern Idaho, mostly under 300 yards and thank God for that as 1.5" out of my .300 wm is usually the norm. for accuracy at 100 yards
Wayne.

I'd say the partition is about a 500 yard bullet at best based on "consistent" accuracy. If you take the time to sort them, perhaps they would be a bit more consistent at long range since I have found some in a box to weigh over 2 full grains more than the others.

I have never personally used the partition at long range to judge terminal performance. Not that I wouldn't try it, but because the situation never presented itself when I was out with the rifles I have used it in. The short range results I have seen up to 200 yards have been outstanding as has been attested to by thousands of hunters for decades.

The front of the Partition is designed for rapid expansion for the "explosive" terminal damage while the back half behind the partition wall drives through for penetration. You will hear some complaining about weight retention of that bullet, but they will still be complaining after recovering it from a dead animal so take the complaints how you want. They are not designed for high weight retention, they were never intended to be. They are supposed to shed the front half of the bullet like a grenade to completely devastate the vital areas. And they do that very well.

But IMO, for the price of Partitions, I would rather shoot Berger and so I do with 100% success rate and much flatter trajectory.

I guess that's because everyone's idea of accuracy is different, the best I have ever seen partitions shoot is about 1" at 100 yards, to me that is very inaccurate and could never be used for long range work,
Wayne..

My 358 Norma will put 3 shots into .3's" at 100 yards and will put 5 shots into 1.5" at 300 yards using the 225gr 35 cal Partitions. So they can be very accurate in the right rifle. Of course my Norma is no Joe Schmo factory rifle. It wears a Lilja barrel in front of a tang Ruger M77 action and is built very well.

Here's a phot of my average 100 yard 3 shot group with this rifle. Optics - Nikon Monarch 4-16X50 BDC reticle.
Not bad for a shoulder cannon ;)

I think you and I both know that Partition with a .430 BC might be doing back flips into the target at 1K yards :)

Shes about a 700 yard max gun for me. That bullet starts dropping so badly after 700 yards that it's like shooting a Mortar round :)
