Anybody reload for a 9mm Luger?

I finally bought an InterArms Swedish Luger. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time. I’ve searched for info from people who own them and have read everything I could find. Information is mixed on what loading works best in them. Does any member here reload for one or know someone who does? I’d rather not damage the gun with loads that are too hot.

Josh, Nice pistol. I never loaded for that particular pistol, but I did have a WWII P38 that I loaded for. My fear like you is damage or parts breakage. I started low with my loads selected W-231 (very universal) for my powder. Starting low and worked up to what functioned the pistol well and not have any function hiccups and stayed away from the higher loads that would slam the operation mechanism. Point of aim was off some but never abused the pistol and enjoyed shooting a classic.

Just my .02

Tim

I’d look up the military load bullet weight for the pistol. Then look in my loading books for starting loads with that bullet weight. Load a few and see if they cycled the action, then up the load till they do. That should put you on the low end of the workable loads. I’d use W231, but that’s mostly because it’s on hand.

I use American select 3.8g with a 122g hard cast plated with Servicios Aventuras small pistol primers at 1123fps it is very clean burning .

Thank you all for the load info but I’m looking for loads specific to the Luger. I recently finished loading 2000+ rounds for my various 9mm handguns.
The Luger , as I’ve read, may be more finicky than a Sig or Glock.

Bro...beautiful Gun! I know nothing about it and you are right about damaging it. I had the 22 version and it was very picky about what I fed it.

As mentioned earlier in this thread....start low with 231 until you get 100% cycle rate and call it good . The P08 isn't that beefy when it comes to loads.

If you want original loading for that gun then you need a 124gr truncated cone bullet. You will find that this profile is the most accurate and best feeding bullet there is in the 9mm. Load to right at 1000fps

I have a couple of the Interarms Lugers, one has the 4" barrel and the other has the 6", both are like new.
I'm far from an expert on these guns, but they are pretty.

I've done as much reading about Lugers in general as I can find and from what seems to be a common thought is they were originally designed around the 124 grain bullet.

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT ( +Plus ) SHOULD NOT BE USED, in these guns.

These guns were built in the 70's and many/most were essentially not used, but rather kept in the original box. Mine have the instructions, original box(for one), 2 clips, cleaning rod and the test target. My guess is many have not been lubricated since new. That was the first thing I did was lubricate every moving part.

I have not reloaded for it.

I’ve been wanting one since I saw one in an old Herter’s catalog my Grandfather had when I was 13 or 14. I thought I should get one before I’m too old to shoot it. They are pretty guns and iconic. The one I got was described as “possibly unfired, like new in box”. I’ll be careful with it but I’m going to shoot it, like all my pistols. I’m glad I found one nobody has abused. I’ll do what you did. Pull it apart, give it a good cleaning, lubrication and then slowly work up some loads until it functions right. I just ordered some “truncated cone” bullets to try, too.

Enjoy your find its a gem. I disposed many tree rats with my 22 Lr. really miss that gun!

I asked a friend that is an avid pistol shooter and a military weapon collector. I think almost all his are shooters. He told me he has a 1936 Mauser Luger and he uses 4.3 gr Bullseye with a 115 gr bullet, and a CCI500 primer.
