9mm blow back AR rifle

Some help/advice please:

I am a UK Shooter, in the UK Self Loading Rifles or "Semi's" (except for .22lr and Shotguns) are banned. There are still several manufacturers who continue to make AR style rifles in .223/5.56 but without the gas block/system, so the bolt is operated manually either by attaching a lever to the bolt or using the original cocking lever at the rear. For competition use the side mounted handle is faster than the rear, with some rigs having cocking handles on both side of the receiver.
The recent deluge of .22lr AR Clones has not bypassed us in the UK and we have seen some very desirable models released. Unfortunately some of these rigs cost as much as you in the U.S. might expect to pay for a semi or full custom .223 AR - Units easily sell for in excess of £1800 or $2838 at today’s conversion rates.
That is just a bit of history for you,
One manufacturer, Southern Gun Company http://www.southern-gun.co.uk/ (No relation to any U.S. company) has devised a nifty lever release system which works with straight walled cartridges and he is offering currently for the 9x19mm luger.
The design has been out for a sufficient amount of time to iron out some teething problems and has been accepted by the UK authorities, that I now feel comfortable with purchasing one and hopefully will get my hands on one this coming weekend.
Due to the relative lack of 9mm ammunition in the UK, I plan on loading my own ammunition and wonder if anyone on the Forum can give some starting advice?
I will be using the gun for competitions that range from 10 to 50 yards and would like to have a load that has as flat a trajectory as possible over that distance. I will only be shooting paper, so energy is not an issue. The only re loading topic that I have been able to find on UK forums makes reference to some powders being every dirty, and as with most firearms this rifle does not operate very well when dirty.
I appreciate that this is somewhat outside the normal for Accurate shooter, but I come here as it is a Forum that I trust and I doubt any Forum either side of the pond has much experience with this set up!
The barrel details are:
Barrel Length 13.25”
Rifling Six Lands & Grooves 1:16 Right Hand Twist
Caliber 9mm X 19mm NATO
Muzzle Velocity S&B 115 GRAIN FMJ 1250 fps

The SGC 9mm lever release has several videos on you tube, I think this is one of the best:

Maybe clays powder or the new comp pistol powder.I would stay away from unique and bullseye ,re dot,and the like. WW 231 used to be a clean powder. Go to the powder sites and even call them for a clean recommendation on powder.I will consult my books and see what is a good choice.

Hodgden lists titegroup as a very clean burning powder and I was right about clays. Go to hodgden.com and look at the powder write ups about performance, application and how it burns. PM me for further inquiry.I have used clays in my 9mm blow back rifle and it worked real good, but titegroup looks to be better yet.

Jon,

Thank you for taking the time to reply, and I apologise for not getting back to you sooner.

I researched the two powders you recommend and found that 90% of people appeared to like titegroup but 10% found it dirty in their guns.
Most appear to like clays, and that would be the way to go.

I also asked some guys this side with similar setups and they all came back as saying that they just could not get the home loads to work well enough to be worth doing. After pricing up the component parts, it looks like there is little difference between home loading and buying factory ammunition - in the UK anyway.
So for the time being I will try to find a reliable source of factory and see how it shoots.

Again, thanks for the advice, it will make a good starting point should I return to the idea,

Dave

My brother,I feel for you and everyone that shoots in the uk.It sucks that it is not economical to reload.Over here it makes good sense to reload at less than half the price of factory loads.

I had an Olympic in 9mm for a while. The 231 burned dirty and left alot of residue which made cleaning a royal PIA. I found Ramshot Zip to be pretty descent. However this has been almost 10yrs now since I sold it to fund a divorce attorney. Things may have changed considerably since then. I would hope there is cleaner burning propellants now then back then. It was fun to shoot and with a Bushnell Holosight quite accurate out to even 200yds! 30rd mag didn't seem to last long though :)

Should any of you guys wish to see some pics of the rifle in question please follow this link http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4063

I have posted several pictures today of my new rifle on page 5 on wards,

Looking forward to putting it through some courses of fire to see if it can keep up with the Marlin 1894 under-levers that dominate our gallery rifle comps,

Dave
