Anybody got any cool non shooting habits?

Fascinating to read and see all the different things folks are interested in!

When I'm not shooting or reloading, I can usually be found in front of my amateur radio station, wielding a camera, or casting a fly rod (http://jeffreyhughes.net/wordpress/2011/08/11/the-magic-fly-rod/).

And like Dusty and a few others, I have spent many miles running at speed on the racetracks and roads of North America. I used to write for one of the motorcycle magazines.

I love to fish and like to build things. The 54 GMC and the wooden boat where on the bucket list. Finished one still working on the other.

At my age I can't do a lot of the things I used to enjoy. Mostly motorcycling, I rode off road bikes for over 35 years, I had a lot of great times doing that. I also rode my street bikes over 200k miles. They were mostly BMW's but also many others. I have also been a boat owner for most of my life, even had a 100mph cat for awhile. The one thing I also still enjoy is my cars. I have built and owned my hot rods and muscle cars. Most recently I have enjoyed modern sporty cars. I currently have a BMW M850i convertible. If you aren't familiar with that, it has a 523hp twin turbo 4.4L V8 with an 8spd auto trans. It is also AWD and has RWS. I enjoy taking a top down cruise every few day down here in beautiful SWF.

and i even occasionally get paid to pound on them....

my circa 1969 ludwig mod orange kit is more impressive, but it is locked up right now... my main acoustic player is an early 70's ludwig blue oyster pearl kit although there are some slingerlands and rogers lurking around also....

blues man, da' blues....

Looking back on my life I have done many things. Raced midgets and sprint cars until an eye injury ended my dream at 17. Was an accomplished skier. Got married and raised a family. Went to play as a tool and die maker and enjoyed that immensely and retired at 55. My 2 sons played baseball at high levels and one still does at 32. From May through October, I am at the ballpark coaching and watching over my granddaughter. Been teaching her to shoot and fly fish, and overall just be a bad influence on her. I have had a full life. I would have never thought the best part of my life would be as a childcare provider for my 3 granddaughters. Life came into its own taking care of them. Working afternoons really caused me to miss much of my son's life growing up. Got a second chance with my granddaughters. Last Wednesday was my wife's last day of work. New adjustments will need to be made. Maybe now I can shoot, hunt a fish a little more. My wife may have other plans.

Wife insisted I add “ tinkering” … I like to build stuff ( went to school for welding before deciding to stay on farm)… and I like Diesel engines ( although not cat’s ) and they tend to get mixed up… currently building a steel moveable shooting bench and “ shopping” for a motor to build a genset with…

Besides rifles, I'm involved with NHRA drag racing. My most recent car was this Stock Eliminator '68 Nova G/SA 327-275 hp combination. On the NHRA G/SA index of 12.00, it went a best of 10.94 @119.80 mph.

I 'work' ;) at a pal's private dyno test shop and race car facility. We dyno mostly NHRA Stock, Super Stock and Competition Eliminator engines along with the occasional interesting project. Our testing work gets pretty involved as we're working with the owners to find every last h.p./tq. we can. Some of this testing goes on a for a while and a certain engine can live in the dyno cell for several weeks, if that's what it takes. We're always validating or discarding new ideas...part of the game. Here's a few that we've done recently...the first is my 327 Stock Eliminator engine testing some oil pan ideas. The oil pan was off and back on 11 times over two days but the net result was 8 h.p. and 8 lbs/ft. of torque of 'free' power which is pretty substanial on these rules restricted engines. :)
