Any type of sanctioned matches near central Ky?

Hello guys, as you can gather from the title I live in central ky and was wondering if any of you guys know of any sort of rifle matches in the area? I know that's extremely vague but here's the deal I'm knew to reloading within the past couple years and learned it from my father in law when he gave me the opportunity to shoot "varmint" rifles with him and I was hooked! I've had a little bit of this and that since in factory varmint rifles. I recently got a 6br built on a 700 action with a hart or lilja barely so I'm told and a Jewell trigger and hs precision stock 14 twist with a 36x leupy and I have a cooper model 21 223. I load for these rifles and we shoot in the backyard for fun. I know what I have isn't winning benchrest quality but I'm curious about competition and the type of classes I could get into if there's even any close. I appreciate the help in advance I'm just a young pup trying to learn.

Go to UltimateBenchrest.com.
Also, IBS.com under Schedule.

Mr Smith gave you some good direction. There are several ranges that shoot Ultimate Benchrest and IBS Varmint for Score matches within an hour or two depending on just where you are in Central KY. I'll be happy to give you additional info if you want to get in touch. The season will be starting up around the 1st of March so your timing is good.

You're a lucky man, Matt. Greyfox is a straight shooter and he will lead you in the right direction. Listen to what he has to say.

So, Francis,
where is it I'm sending the check? :) Come down and shoot with us this season and I'll see about cutting you a little slack on the scoring. Of course, that's assuming you need it. ;)

Greyfox how familiar are you with the buck creek range? I live within about 30 miles of it and was wondering if there's a membership and when it would be open to just go down for practice.

I am very familiar with Buck Creek and have shot there for 12-14 years. It is a private range owned by Jackie Stogsdil who lives about 40 yards from the firing line. No membership in required or available. All matches are open to anyone who wished to compete. As you were told above, you can visit both websites for dates and times. I don't know if Jackie allows practice at any time other than the afternoon before a match. Sometimes there are cattle grazing on the range. If you want to contact me using the info I posted earlier, feel free and if you like I'll give you Jackie's number and you can ask him yourself.

Francis,
That's the nice thing about UBR, just bring what you shoot best. With caliber neutral targets, it's your choice. Personally, I prefer the 6's and 22's for the low recoil and easier handling. I think as we progress with this new game other folks are moving the same way. OTOH- we still have several shooting 30 BRs and winning as well. I shoot a 6 Beggs, 6 PPC and a couple of 220 Beggs.

How far from eastern KY are those matches? I am not far from Ashland Ky.

BGSL is a little south of Lexington (Wilmore). Buck Creek is about 15 miles SE of Somerset. There is also a regular match near Jonesville VA. Nothing is exactly in your back yard, but many of us drive 150+ miles for many of the matches. I'll be shooting in Birmingham next W/E (180 miles). If you're addicted you do what you gotta do.
