Any Tricks to Bedding Square Tangs?

Rook 6

Silver $$ Contributor
Bedding my BRMXD. Have lot of experience with 700/clones. Only issue for me is the square tang. Full contact on rear and side la or spacing? If so, how are experienced folks setting up the spacing? Cutting a mask looks tricky…

Thanks for any and all input!

Yes, on the recoil lug. Never really thought about the potential recoil force issues that might be counterproductive with a full contact tang until I had the action in hand. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Make sure there's clearance not only at the rear but all around the sides. It's easy to have contact in the corners....a bit of relief at the corners down to the floor of the bedding is a good approach. With the lug hard against the back of the mortise after bedding, .020 is the minimum for me. -Al
