Any reason NOT to rebore a Howa 1500?

Considering tweaking a Howa 1500 in 308 to make it legal for IA deer season.
We can use 35 cal and larger.
A trip to JES would turn the 308 into a 358 Win.
Seems pretty straightforward, anything I may be missing?

There is a conversation going on right now at Cast Boolits about reboring and changing barrels to 358 W that you need to join in on. One guy was reboring and the other was rebarreling.

Some of the rebore guys do a pretty good job and get some decent accuracy, with a hunting rifle and such a big bore I would be tempted to try out a rebore.

I’ve done quite a few 358 Win and 358 WSM’s (Sambar) for IA deer. Used Wilson (RAGGED HOLE BARRELS) on a couple and they shot very well.

Thanks for the replies.

A barrel swap isn't in the picture for this project.

Thinking the mag/feeding shouldn't be an issue as the case is so close to the original 308, anyone experience issues with this?

Will pop in at castboolits thanks for the heads up.

I don't understand the States reasoning for going .35 and up .
It's not JUST 35 and up. It's if you want to use a bottle necked cartridge it must be 35 and up. It's my understanding that you could use a 270 Ren for instance if you wanted (straight walled case). That being said my cousin that lives in Iowa is using his 375 Ruger Elk rifle.
