Get with Thomas Holbrook on this Forum. He has built about a half dozen rifles for customers. They have had great success with the 195's. He has those pills down to a science..
Danny, Tom has them (195 Hybrids) running at 2885f.p.s. with 61.1grs of H1000. He has sent me several pics of groups he has shot at 1000.. I believe he still has the pics.. This load has worked in 5 or 6 rifles he has built, specifically for the 195s. He is a SAUM shooter.Never was able to accurately shoot them fast enough to overcome the 180 Hybrid BC, in a straight .284, .284 Shehane or a 7mm RSAUM.
Dan
He is shooting Bartlein 1-8.3 twist. But I believe that the trick in his SAUMs is the .290 Freebore. This will allow a hefty portion of H1000 with zero pressure signs.Do you know what twist rate he is running? When I shot them out of my SAUM with an 8 1/2 twist they gave vertical in the winds and I don't think they were that stable. In calm conditions though they were very accurate.
Ben, I ran .300 FB in a Shehane with a Krieger 8.25 twist at 2800fps. They would shoot well for a day or two and then shoot terrible on other days. Prior to this experience, I had several c tell me they could not get the 195s to shoot well. One year and 1200 rounds later, I cut my losses and went back to the 180H. I think there is a reason you don't see this bullet used much in competition. He is shooting Bartlein 1-8.3 twist. But I believe that the trick in his SAUMs is the .290 Freebore. I could not get them to shoot either Scott. However, Tom has had some fabulous success with them over the winter. Just like the 183SMK's. Some people get fantastic results>>>I have got ZILCH with them on 2 different barrels! I don't know.. If I had the answers to all these "dilemmas", I could write a book and make some $$$s!! Well, we have identical experiences because I tried the 183s too.....another falco fail even with multiple barrels. I fixed the poor-shooting 183 SMK barrel by putting 180 hybrids through it.I could not get them to shoot either Scott. However, Tom has had some fabulous success with them over the winter. I've shot these quite a bit. Built a LR steel gun around the 195's. Tried to use them for f-class (7 wsm 32" 8 twist brl , 300 throat) but could not achieve consistent results. I have run the 195's from 2820-3050fps. The 3050fps is hard on the brass but the 20 moa come up from a 100 yard zero is impressive (bullet tipped). At that velocity (3050fps) after 25 rounds it started to blow jackets. I know one shooter using them for f-class but with poor results.I bought some 195gn Berger 7MMs back when they first came out and now I have a new 8.5" barrel to suit. I have not seen much in here about people using them in F class. Has anyone on here had good success with the 195gn Bergers or 197gn Sierras in F class?
Don't be nervous! If your rifle shoots them well, as some do, you will do very well. You will find out quick enough. However, if it does shoot up to expectations, you will have a superior long-range projectile! Let's hope it does what is expected of it! You may be pleasantly surprised!I have a couple of 8-twist barrels that I'm working on to shoot the 195s in my 7SAUM. I was fairly satisfied with what I found for the one barrel, until I read this thread. Now I'm getting nervous. I had settled on 58.6 gr. of H4831SC and a velocity of ~2850-2860 fps from my LabRadar. At 100 I was getting consistently round groups ~.3 MOA. I shot 5 rounds at 700 the other day in some mirage and wind. That group measured ~.6 MOA (4.1") with 20 ES and 2 1/2" of vertical (first 4 shots had an ES of 1, but last shot came up 20 slower. Didn't print lower on paper though). I was going to run with that at my next 1,000 yard match and see what happens, but now I'm wondering after hearing some of you talk about how inconsistent they are. Will I be able to keep the jackets on, if I try the 180s, in an 8-twist out of a 7SAUM? My buddy is shooting 180s out his SAUM and his node is ~2920 fps, with my LabRadar, but he has a 9-twist.

No Sir! I shot a 3 x 20 shot match at Ben Avery the week before the BSWNs. They shot just fine! Oh and they are travelling at a "poke-along" pace of 3070, no problems, albeit I have an 8.5 twist. I believe you will be fine...What do you think Ben? Will the 8-twist pushing the 180s in the 2900s be too fast for them? Just wondering if I should be looking at "Plan B"?
What cartridge do you use to shoot them at 3070?No Sir! I shot a 3 x 20 shot match at Ben Avery the week before the BSWNs. They shot just fine! Oh and they are travelling at a "poke-along" pace of 3070, no problems, albeit I have an 8.5 twist. I believe you will be fine...
I am shooting 60.1grs of RL-23 out of a 7 SAUM.. I can also shoot 60.3grs of H4831SC equally as accurate>>but at 2960. That RL-23 produces considerably more velocity than H4831SC..What cartridge do you use to shoot them at 3070?
I have a couple of friends that use them (the 195's) very successfully! I have had trouble with the 195's as well as the 183's. The reason(s) have befuddled me. The bullets themselves seem GREAT as far as being consistent goes. I don't understand why I can't get them to shoot. I have tried NUMEROUS powders and seating depths to no avail. I have shot them out of both 1-8.3 and 1-8.5. I am at a loss.Surprised to hear some are not having luck. Wonder if its in the longer strings of competition, as these are the thin jackets. The 195 has flat out impressed me with how well it shoots in hunting rifles. I have not tried it in competition. But for a 3-5 shot group at long range they are very very good. Most of the ones I have built are on 8.5 twist rock creeks, they end up about 8.3 due to the gain twist and have a very mild land/groove transition.
