Any LR competition in Texas?

I have always been amazed at how low a profile LR shooting is here around the Houston area. I've lived here all of my 49 years. I was surprised to find out just a week ago that one of my colleagues at work shoot s with Boyou Rifle Shooters. The only LR range other than that that I have found is American Shooting Center over off Westheimer near Addicks Dam,they have a 600 yd). I'm building a 6BR and by-golly, I'm gonna shoot it somewhere!!

I'm not a member at Bayou but I do shoot in the monthly matches there. There is a 1000 yard prone match the first Sunday of each month. And a 300 or 600 yard prone match the third Sunday of the month.

I am still having the same problems trying to secure land for a 600/1000 yard range. First thing the land owners mentions is accidents and law suits. Then noise problems, then how to keep the cattle off the range. Any piece of land that will work for a range has cattle grazing on it.
Mention you want to lease land for a shooting range and you get shut down real quick.
This has been much harder then I expected.
Havn't given up, just not making much progress.
I built a 10 ft. tall x 40 ft.long foot berm on a friends property and shoot to 600 there.
You are welcome to come shoot with us here in Huntsville, usually on Sundays.

its Tim Beasley here in Giddings, how is it in Huntsville? Have you thought about a informal match at the 600yd place were u shoot. We could all chip in extra to cover the target cost and then little more for kicks. If this happens, I need to start practicing at 600yds. The new rifle will be here Wednessday, 2 days and counting down....Hope is all well ur way and here is fine, just need some RAIN!!!!! Grass is hard to come by and the tanks are trying up, hope I don't have to sell the cows, thats my daughters future college money..

There is a 1k match at Bayou this Sunday, you should come out and get down in the dirt with us!!
In addition, they have just finished the 800 and 900 yard berms, and are having the 1st "Palma" style match one week from Sunday. This Palma match has $0 entry fee as an incentive to break in the new yardages.

Edit to add, the TSRA Long-range Championship has been set for Bayou for Oct 19-20 or whatever weekend is right there. So this is a good chance to get some practice time at the actual range.

I need to talk to my buddy about matches. He doesn't mind me bringing a few friends to shoot but not sure about a match.
I will talk to him about it this week. Basically just a very large pasture with my berm near one end. No benches or covered area. Would have do like LSSO, bring your own bench or shot on belly. Don't want to impose on Utopia Shoot Out or LSSO so we would probably do some type of Praire Dog shoot similar to Ground Hog shoots back east with an egg shoot at the end instead of clays.
All just talk right now, I'll get back to you.

I'm in. I'll be at the State LR shoot at Bayou in October. Tiger Valley near Waco losts its steam for their open shoots, not enough turnouts. I think we could get TJ to start them back if we could get a bunch of shooters to go. Ft. Wolters near Mineral Well has been restricted to 500yds, .223 only, 300/500yd, AR or bolt. Still a great, fun match, good folks, check the match schedule at www.FWSSC.org or,net) Tac Pro is having their fall LSSO in September.
