Any love for GBW brass

Im looking at buying some 223 brass to neck down to 20cal. I'm not to interested In processed brass at this time, so I'm concidering new LC but then I saw this GBW brass. Does anyone have experiance with it they could share with me. Thank you in advance

I tried LC brass for the first time. My project is a modified 6x45. AmmoBrass,LLC was the source...$27/100 delivered. I ordered their 5.56 selection as I wanted to keep tight primer pockets...I push loads. This was the cleanest brass I've ever seen! I ordered 200 pieces and they sent 225...2 dented and not used and 6 were not LC headstamp. Thus far, their performance is equal to Lapua and primer pockets are still tight.

Don't know about GBW but LC is first rate. I make .20 Practical's from LC, mine have a cross inside a circle. 100% of mine were useable. They all had tight primer pockets when primed with CCI 41's. Visible indications of annealing and the heads appeared to be tough & hard with centered flash holes. I still have the unopened 100 piece box of Lapua .223's from 2013. The 250 round bag of LC's cost about 75% of the 100 round box or Lapua brass.

I looked a little for info on GBW, Only thing I can find is someone on another forum said it stands for Gold Belt Wolf. Only time will tell. I think if I was going to the trouble of reforming brass I would go with a known high quality brass. Wait on the reviews to come in on GBW???

I'd roll with the Lake City and get to sizing. I wouldn't think twice about it.

I was hoping this thread would get some responses from some that have used the GBW 223 brass.

I have tons of Lake City ( Service Rifle Shooter ) all sorted by year and in various stages on number of times fired so I figured I'd get some other / new 223 brass for my 600 yard loads so I bought two 500 pc bags from Midsouth at the end of last season.

I don't plan on doing anything other than use it in AR based 223 service rifles but I bought 1000 pcs when it was on sale around the price ($78/500) it's on sale now at https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....-brass-gbw-headstamp-bulk-breakdown-500-count. I'll try to check 10 pcs tonight to see how wide of a weight spread just as a general / basic quality control check.

If anyone has loaded this at least a few times in a service rifle I'd be interested to see how it's holding up for you regarding primer pockets, necks, etc..
I don't load super hot but I hope anyone that reports back does as an accelerated test.

Thanks, George

That would be great. I too am surprised there haven't been more chiming in. Id be Interested on how many loadings people are getting as well overall quality. Ive read it is manufactured by remington? Just curious if the quality is the same.

Remington isn't keeping up with their own line of brass as far as manufacturing goes. Why would they launch a new branding?

Here is the contact information of which the website doesn't respond currently:

They were, as of Aug. 2016, manufacturing a line of loaded ammunition. But without a website, the possibility is that they have gone out of business and the brass was purchased at fire sale prices.

I don't see anything wrong with paying $15.60/100 in bulk, purchasing 500 pcs. Worst case is that you use it in competitions where brass retrieval is not allowed or impossible. Midsouth also has larger quantities available with a little more savings. This is a positive sale for those who shoot AR15s in competitions or just for making blasting ammo. Yes, this is counter to the thinking on this website but I'll wager that it does take place more than you might think...;)

Any new info available or anyone using this brass?
Very little info on who made this brass available.

Anyway I sorted thru the 1st of the 2 bags of 500 pcs I bought and have fired some of it.

It is considerably heavier than Lake City. In the 1st 500 lot #963 I had
41 pcs 98 - 99 grains
384 pcs 99.1 - 100 grains
74 pcs 100.1 - 100.6
1 pc 101.6
All weighed as received without primer installed and on an el cheapo nuthin fancy rcbs electronic scale.

In my opinion;
that weight spread is pretty good and perfectly fine for a service rifle shooter to load straight out of the box with no weight sorting for 600 yards use.

I'm a service rifle shooter so I am the weak link if it's not a 10 or an X so i typically don't spend much time precisely weighing things.

in my 20" Bartlein 1 x 7 twist service rifle barrel my standard load of 23gr. AR Comp under a Berger 82 was a bit hot and wasn't locking the bolt back. My thinking is this is due to the brass being heavier so makes simple sense less internal case volume raising pressure. Depriming those cases and checking primer pockets they measured fine on my gauge https://ballistictools.com/store/swage-gage-small-primer-pocket

I will just drop my charge a bit and go on my way shooting matches using this brass for 600 only.
I don't typically try to go fer every last fps gain anyway as long as the load is shooting / grouping well.

Maybe all the extra weight in this brass is in the base so the primer pockets will hold up better / longer.
Time will tell as the season goes on. I'll report back in the fall.

Anyone else done any measuring or firing with this brass that can report on their findings / experience?

Thanks,
George

I have shot some decent groups during load development, with no brass prep. This is for my 12fv savage varmint gun, far from a competition setup.

Assume you knew this, but in case you didn't. The cross in circle is a NATO designation or military spec brass.

Thanks, your assumption is correct, hopefully government inspectors will ensure that the brass having a "cross inside a circle" meets some standard (mil spec) - it sure meets my casual needs.

As best as I can remember both LC .223 & 5.56X45 brass were for sale in bags of 250 and the .223 LC brass did not have the NATO designation and was more expensive. Always looking for a good deal I bought the 5.56X45 for my .20 Practical.
