Im looking at buying some 223 brass to neck down to 20cal. I'm not to interested In processed brass at this time, so I'm concidering new LC but then I saw this GBW brass. Does anyone have experiance with it they could share with me. Thank you in advance
Ive read it is manufactured by remington?
I was hoping this thread would get some responses from some that have used the GBW 223 brass.
I have tons of Lake City ( Service Rifle Shooter ) all sorted by year and in various stages on number of times fired so I figured I'd get some other / new 223 brass for my 600 yard loads so I bought two 500 pc bags from Midsouth at the end of last season.
I don't plan on doing anything other than use it in AR based 223 service rifles but I bought 1000 pcs when it was on sale around the price ($78/500) it's on sale now at https://www.midsouthshooterssupply....-brass-gbw-headstamp-bulk-breakdown-500-count. I'll try to check 10 pcs tonight to see how wide of a weight spread just as a general / basic quality control check.
If anyone has loaded this at least a few times in a service rifle I'd be interested to see how it's holding up for you regarding primer pockets, necks, etc..
I don't load super hot but I hope anyone that reports back does as an accelerated test.
Thanks, George
Assume you knew this, but in case you didn't. The cross in circle is a NATO designation or military spec brass.Don't know about GBW but LC is first rate. I make .20 Practical's from LC, mine have a cross inside a circle. 100% of mine were useable. They all had tight primer pockets when primed with CCI 41's. Visible indications of annealing and the heads appeared to be tough & hard with centered flash holes. I still have the unopened 100 piece box of Lapua .223's from 2013. The 250 round bag of LC's cost about 75% of the 100 round box or Lapua brass.
Thanks, your assumption is correct, hopefully government inspectors will ensure that the brass having a "cross inside a circle" meets some standard (mil spec) - it sure meets my casual needs.Assume you knew this, but in case you didn't.
