any factory 6mm or bigger rounds using .378 boltface?

I have a buddy with 223 rifle that would like to investigate making it deer hunting legal in Indiana which means it needs to be a 6mm bullet or bigger. I was curious if maybe someone knew of something out there I dont. A botique ammo supplier can count as factory round for these purposes
Ordering a few box's of ammo online will be cheaper than a new bolt for the rifle for sure.
A new barrel will be in order , but that cheaper than a new rifle too
the woods here make 100yds a long shot so about anything would be enough for bambi thanks for any info you can share

6x45, 6x47..both 6mm on a 223 case. Wildcat of course, but not hard to make. One is 223 case, the other 222 mag case, neck up.

MDWS is trying to get the 6mm Mongoose SAAMI approved now, it's basically a 6/223.

Or have the bolt face opened up to .420 and go for the 6.8 or 6x6.8

If he loads his own and want to stick to the min caliber I would second the 6x45 but since it doesnt sound like he does I will second the 300 BO, lots of ammo out there for it.

Like Eddie said, the Blackout would be the only current factory round. There is ammo for the 25-45 Sharps but I don't know how long it will be around. It never seemed to catch on very well. It's a 25/223 improved of some sort. The 6x45, 6x47 and 6x204 are all super easy wildcats. One pass through a die and load, no fire forming. They are real deer killers. A 6x45 is my go to local deer rifle and has never failed to put one in the freezer. With light bullets it's also an excellent varmint round.

So IN has the new law where you can use any 6mm as long as you hunt on private property, but for now thats a temporary law right? Otherwise you are limited by cartridge length ect arent you?

Buy another rifle. By the time he gets done he's going to spend more money and end up with a rifle that takes high priced ammo to feed it, thus it ends up in the corner and only gets used during deer season.

6mm or bigger length between 1.16 and I can't remember max but 338lapua is to big but win mag is ok. It was only 6 or 30 last year but best I can tell it caused ZERO problems so this year they opened it to any caliber over 6
Yes private land only

Getting a 2nd bolt for the rifle is another option to consider.
For deer hunting around 100 yard, buy an el cheapo Savage Axis in .243. With all the factory ammo out there, one should find at least one that shoots moa or better. By the time a prefit or barrel job is done, it'll cost more than an Axis.

Myself wouldn't use one if you gave it to me... same for most all the shabby, cheap, want-to-be rifles.

Either would I but not everyone has the money for a custom setup. Aside from that, most of the ones I've seen are more than suitable for an occasional short range deer or varmint rifle shooting factory ammo.

The OP wont answer what kind of rifle he is talking about. Might very well be an AR pattern. might be able to get the barrel for that cheaper than an axis. im sure glad they arent making the 223 legal for deer. All the AR boys would be out there playing and spraying. Not a place where id want to be.:(
