Any CZ .22 lr shooters out there?

I have a CZ 453 that does not like what I'm feeding it. Anyone have a 453 that could tell me what ammo is working for them.

I have a CZ 453 American and it only likes Lapua CenterX, old lot 26548-56311 (2013?). I tried a lot ammo and didn’t find anything close. It was at its worst with plated bullets. I didn’t try Eley or SK as I was happy with the CX and was surprised with how good it was.
It does need 10 shots or more to settle down after cleaning. Also it’s more precise without using the set trigger.

I didn't get into CZ 22RF rifles until they introduced the 457, then I decided I had to have an American. It's a really nice-looking rifle, but the OEM bbl never shot worth a darn, so it got replaced by a Shilen ratchet, and now it shoots at least as good as it looks with good lots of SK Std+, Pistol Match, & Rifle Match. Not long after the purchase of the American, I found a Varmint MTR in stock and bought it. It doesn't shoot as good as the re-barreled American, but it's not at all bad for a factory bbl. Last one I bought was a 24" VPT with the Manners PRS1T stock - that OEM bbl also had issues, so it was also replaced with a Shilen ratchet. Two out of three isn't very good odds when it comes to factory hammer forged bbls, but I sure like the features of the newer 457 actions.

My CZ 457 MTR loves Norma Match (you aren't gonna find any) but REALLY loves Lapua Midas+. Tac 22 shoots ok. SK is mediocre, Eley (any type including Tenex) flat out sucks. RWS R-50 is a bust in my gun as well. This is all relative to my standards.

For instance my 457 will shoot in the .001's and 002's at 50 meters with Norma Match and Lapua Midas+. At 100 meters less than an inch with Norma and 1/2" with Midas+. My buddy's 457 MTR loves SK standard though, where mine shoots well over an inch at 100.

As with any .22 what works in one barrel may not work in another.. case in point on the SK with same make and model.

You didn't specify distances you're shooting, and I'm stuck with standard velocity under 1100fps in my game, so that's they ammo I've tried. For instance I can't shoot RWS R-100, but it may be suitable for a long range game. Mine really likes the 1080ish fps ammo.

Most CZ's seem to like any Lapua or SK, so I'd start there.

I have a 453 Varmint .22LR. It took me quite a bit of shooting to find that my gun doesn’t like Eley loads and prefers SK & Lapua. My best groups were SK LR but Pistol and Rifle Match along with CX gave good groups too, just less data so far. I also found it preferred action screw torque on the low side, like 18 in lbs. I’ll be retesting some of the “not so good” ammo now that I discovered the torque effect. It can shoot OK with CCI SV and Fed 510 but not consistently.

I have a pair of 452's. Both like CCI Std Vel at 25 yards and love SK Std and SK Pistol Match Special out to 50. For 100- 200 the Lapua Midas + or R100 seems to give tighter vertical spreads. Both hate the high dollar Eley but like the Yellow box Eley Target . Both also hate the red box SK rifle match and any other flavor Lapua with the exception of Midas +

I have Five 452’s, a 455 and Six 457’s. It’s a barrel lottery with CZ. They all shoot decent for the price, but some of them shoot great for the price.
This is from my flagship 452 American with lot tested Ammo. Now I know those customs will shoot better, but this was a $440 rifle.

Same rifle at 100 yards on a calm days.

A couple of my 457’s. I don’t have any groups to show as I shoot these in ARA Factory, but I have got 50 yard groups with both in the 1’s and they probably average high 2’s- low 3’s.

I’ve had a CZ 452 American for probably 15 years now. It’s a classic blue steel and walnut stock squirrel rifle with a rimfire dedicated 2-7x Leopold in Talley rings.
Classy looking and shoots amazingly well.
There are at least a dozen and a half owned by members at my gun club and I have yet to hear about accuracy issues regarding any of them.
Mine shoots CCI Standard pretty well, but really came alive with SK Std plus. After I bedded it, any fliers became the fault of the guy pulling the trigger.
I have a dozen 22 RF rifles, some shoot as shoot as well as, some better than, the CZ, but if I could only keep one,it would be the CZ.

Must be the new self guided bullets or that stupid decimal jumped
;).. if you counter bore the front of the bullet and glue in a magnet you get great results... or you just don't post a reply when you're mic'in shoulder bumps on centerfire cartridges and have thousandths on your brain.

Of course I meant .1 and .2, or "in the one's and two's" lol

I bought a CZ 457 Varmint MTR last year on the recommendation from Petey and and after shooting his in the last match of the season at the Ridgway rifle club in Pennsylvania. A 22 to me was always something to plink at tin cans etc. I was amazed after shooting his and hitting the little targets out to 100 m that I had to get into the sport. Pretty tough to find these rifles out there for sale I guess most everybody is having good experiences with them I don’t read too much bad here on accurate shooter about them. Anyway after putting a spring kit in it and a Leupold competition 35 power scope that I had that wasn’t being used I was amazed at the groups I was able to shoot while testing approximately 10 or 12 different types of ammunition before settling on SK standard plus. To be honest I don’t think I ever measured a 50 yard group I am guessing it averaged.2 - .3 At 100 yards I did have one really good one and I did measure that one it was .4 these are five shots, but it averaged about inch groups.I am sure that this would not be good enough accuracy for some of the disciplines out there. For an average price of right around $750 and a $15 spring kit and a little testing of ammo I think it’s pretty good representation of a CZ 22 and one heck of a bargain out there for somebody that’s not looking to be an Olympic shooter. I shot mine in its first match on Saturday and scored 34 out of 40 targets which put me right up there amongst the leaders I’m not sure how I finished as of yet. Doesn’t really matter I had a whole lot of fun knocking down the vast majority of targets set in front of me. Maybe Petey will post some pictures of the targets we shoot at.B304C9BD-AD26-450F-9D77-B591F620E93A.jpeg
