I own AR-15s and 10s; Armalites.
Bought the 10s because my M1a was not very viable when scoped.
Had I bought AR-15s first and learned how finely they deliver 75/77gr match bullets at practical range, I doubt I would have bought the 10s.
AR-15 is the more versatile rifle. 77gr bullets loaded to magazine length are proven viable to 600yds and more; but not from a carbine. Much lighter, much less expensive and an easier platform to shoot well. For the weight of a plainjane AR-10, you can carry a Service Rifle. A match barreled flat top with lightweight float tube like Badger Ord or JP Entps is about the best of all worlds. Then there are the Grendel variants and 6.8spc and other ctgs to consider.
Lots of versatility in the 10 platform, like with a .260rem, 7mm-08, or 6XC. Even do the .300saum magnum. But then there are the Olympic WSSM magnum AR-15s to consider...
Lots of choices, for sure; but to my mind the heavy match bullets in the .223 is best of all possible worlds: Affordable to load, very tough non-frangible bullet, and great accuracy.
