Any advantage to remage vs savage?

I understand the differences between the 700 and 10 actions.

Is there any reason to go with one brand over the other specifically as they relate to the barrel nut? Not triggers, stocks, etc.

My plan as of now is to buy the cheapest version of either when I find a good deal and put a prefit CBI barrel and a BC M40 stock on it.

My only goal is a rifle as accurate as possible for as cheap as possible. Not trying to break records just have fun shooting tiny groups.

I don't know if it matters but the caliber at this point is likely going to be a 6BR.

If you just want the cheapest I think Savage will be the way to go. Also, without doing additional work (trying, lapping, et ceters) I think Savage might be a little more accurate.

I think anytime you post something like this a lot of guys are going to tell you to get the action they prefer. In this scenario, based on the criteria you've listed, I think Savage is likely the better choice. I personally would prefer the Remington. I don't like Savage's bolt lift and I think most of their magazine options have feed issues, but I think you will likely find them to be more affordable and likely more accurate without doing work on them.

A nut is a nut.

Much better trigger options on a Remington. More stock choices on the Remington.

The only advantage of the Savage is the swappable bolt head. If that matters to you. I don’t find it to be that desirable.

No, I don't really see the need to go away from the 308 bolt head... Basically everything I want to try is covered by that.

i like savages. had some that shot very well. i belive the floating bolt is a great part of that.

that said they do have 2 serious issues that are difficult to solve. triggers and cocking effort. with the right smith both can be improved but the trigger will never be a jewel and the action will never cycle like a bat. you get what you pay for.

I mean, buy something like a Kelbly Atlas or Borden Alpine. A custom aftermarket clone of the M700. Very high value.

While I have no doubt that those custom actions are better, I will have to work up to one.

Right now I am considering getting an action in trade or around $100-200... I definitely can't swing 1k on an action.

What about the Classic Hunter action being sold here in the classifieds. I picked one up, it's nice especially for $550. It's setup to do the Remage already, M700 footprint and trigger.

If you can’t, you can’t. Once you shoot a custom, you will not want to go back.
