Any advantage to remage vs savage?

I understand the differences between the 700 and 10 actions.

Is there any reason to go with one brand over the other specifically as they relate to the barrel nut? Not triggers, stocks, etc.

My plan as of now is to buy the cheapest version of either when I find a good deal and put a prefit CBI barrel and a BC M40 stock on it.

My only goal is a rifle as accurate as possible for as cheap as possible. Not trying to break records just have fun shooting tiny groups.

I don't know if it matters but the caliber at this point is likely going to be a 6BR.

I have been happy with my savage and don't have much experiance with the Remington but I think it leads out of the two so I would go with that
That is the R700.
I don't have any experience with the 783 but interested.

The cocking piece on the savage is the downfall. Remington is way better and there are those that will argue that it is still not perfect. They will not argue that Savage is better though. Then because of that with the Remington, like Dusty said you have a much larger choice of quality triggers.

The Savage would be a better shooter. The Savage was designed with a cheaper to build modular bolt, but the retaining pin in the bolt head allows the bolt head enough play to always make full contact with both receiver lugs. That is why the poorly finished Savage out shoots most production rifles, even with a crappy trigger.

I think your statement of cheaper version actually makes your decision for you. Price them and buy the cheapest....

I like Savage, because you can work on them yourself. You can change bolt heads for whatever caliber you like. Change the barrel, without having to have a machine shop at your disposal. Change the trigger to a Rifle Basix trigger if you don't like the target trigger that comes from Savage. The only drawback I can see is the selection of stocks available. Rem has many more choices when it comes to that.

If you are going to be using nut barrels, then Remington is the way to go. Can't beat a Jewel trigger and I think you will find there are more readily available stock choices in Remington.

But I have a Savage bench gun with a Sav-2 trigger set at 4 oz riding in a SSS MBR stock and it kills.

If I were doing a build I would sang me a single shot stainless Rem 700 action from Buds for $398. I believe you will find these are in fact the 40x pattern action. Notice the side holes for iron sights.

You can use the X Mark trigger until you have the money for a Jewel. If you tell me what kind of stock style you want I will make a recommendation on that too.

if you buy the Remington, getting the factory barrel off can be a pita. also you will have to buy the remage nut. if you buy the savage, it comes with the barrel nut. you said cheapest, I have both as varmint guns and yes the remy gives you more choices on the trigger, but can some one tell me the remington model that comes with left port, right bolt.

If you wanna go cheap get the savage model 12fv from cabelas. $269 after rebate and sell the stock and barrel you’ll have $100-150 in the action.

I just got a nice Bell & Carlson for my Savage at Stocky's for $219. Aluminum bedded and it feels very nice. Have to admit, it was a struggle finding it but it worked out great.

Yea with it being on sale it is very tempting. The only issue it it being backordered.

I also have a line on a rem 700 youth I can get in trade for ar parts I have on hand...

That's why I'm trying to figure out the pros or cons of each route.

If you buy a savage the 26" heavy varmint 6.5 creed barrels bring $150+. Much more than a similar 308 barrel

Better get that free remington then. Easy solution

While no cost out of pocket it costs more over all.

One thing I like about Remington is the Magpul bottom metal vs the availability of bottom metal for savage. The cheapest aics bottom metal I've found is around $200

One I dislike is they seem to have the thought their product is perfect and doesn't need to change... Savage seems to always be adapting to the market.

But basically am I correct in my findings that skipping the ford vs Chevy debate, a barrel nut system is a barrel nut system, no matter the platform? They will be the same level of difficulty with the same accuracy potential.
