Any 284 Shehane loaders in the Hampton Roads, VA area?

Hey guys, first post!

I am just getting started loading for 284 Shehane tight neck and was hoping there might be some fellow Shehane loaders in the Hampton Roads, VA area. I haven't done any reloading in about 30 years, but am currently setting up and hope to have most equipment soon.

Im thinking to get started I will use some of the Norma 284 brass available so I don't have to upsize the neck from the 6.5x284 Lapua brass.

I have never turned necks and I will likely need some guidance on this before I can get to fireforming brass.

I am also wondering if I should get the Whidden die and seater set or have Warner Tool make me a sizing die off some fire formed brass.

Thanks, and excited to be on the forum.

Question: Is the Rock Chucker Supreme a good press choice for a dedicated single stage press?

I hear that sizing the 6.5x284 necks to 7mm takes a little bit of effort. I just want a strong, reliable and consistent press.

Yes, the Rock Chucker will work great. No, it does not take a lot of effort to resize the case neck. Simply run a 7mm mandrel through the necks, not hard at all. You will need to turn the necks into the shoulder after necking up in order to prevent/eliminate donuts. Also, you mentioned a "tight neck" chamber...make sure you have at least .004" of clearance between the loaded cartridge neck and the chamber when you are finished...for best accuracy.

Consider just using a straight 284 WIN if you want to minimize the hassle factor. You'll want a .321 neck if using unturned Norma 284 WIN brass

Thanks for the info Scott!

I would go with the Norma 284 brass but I figure the stretched and thinned neck on the Lapua 6.5 brass will be easier to get to the 0.313 neck I need for my chamber than the unstretched Norma necks. I could be wrong about that though.

Unturned Lapua cartridge necks will be around .314 (and have donuts) and unturned Norma will be around .316-.317. What is your chamber neck diameter?

What is the best place to get a Entris 64-1S scale?
Jeff,
I bought mine from Gary the overbearing Scale Guy. He is THE source for Sartorius... He is overbearing pill, however, he is THE guy to buy from...

Do buy the Class 1 50.000 GRAM Check Weight for Calibration despite what you hear about not needing it...(it is a good deal and frankly at this level of precision junk in junk out. Consistency IS grand, however, I also want to know as accurately as is reasonably affordable, how much the powder charge WEIGHS as well.

Price in your cart is $999 which is DOWN a bit from where I bought mine in June. Great balance...

Regards, Matt.

Btw, feel free to give me a call if you have any questions on your scale or that press issue... Would enjoy speaking with you.

Matt:

Wow, that is a good price, $100 lower than anywhere I could find!

Do any of the Entris 64 have an internal calibration option like the larger ones, or do I just get the 50g cal weight?

Im going to pair the Entris with the Autotrickler. (I know thats the wrong scale pictured below)

Thanks,
Jeff
