Antelope

Nothing big or odd, but buck is done.
462 yards, 18mph cross wind, 90g TGK, 6x6.8 Savage build, suppressed. Saw 70 plus today, but could just not close the distance closer no matter the terrain, hay fields, wide open, low grasses, crawled in grass just to get to a high spot. Does were doing a great job of security. By the time I got it picked up winds were blowing 30mph plus.20201005_084554.jpg

I shot my antelop buck last year with my 6mm rem AI and a 90 gr TGK @ 3500 FPS at the muzzle. He was at 296 yards and didn't take a step. How was the bullet performance at that distance? What speed are they leaving at?

Pass through above shoulder, didn't take a step, dropped on the spot. Bullet runs at 3037 fps in the 6x6.8. Just a few tiny spots of jacket seen after processing it at home.

When hunting in WY in 1989 we saw lopes at more than a mile. Got behind a ridge walked the mile and belly crawled to the top nothing but 2 heads sticking above the ridge. Every lope in the heard was looking right at us. They have situational awareness at all times.

What kind of windage did you hold or dial in that kind of wind at that distance? Nice buck and shooting.

2 mil into the wind, dialed up 4 inches from my 200 yd zero, a 3" dial up would of done the job as well, but since it was moving back and forth to the 500 yd mark I figured 4" my best choice

That's a nice buck, 5spd. There's nothing more satisfying than when the project rifle comes through perfectly like that. The tenderloin medallions are probably the best tasting meat you'll ever have. Pronghorns are not that easy to sneak up on, as you just explained. Well done!
I wouldn't mind hearing more about the rifle. How much does it weigh? What's the story on it?
I was booked for a pronghorn hunt this year, but had to cancel in January. Reading about yours helps!

I put together a 6x6.8, 1/9 tw, p3 22" SS heavy sporter bbl I got from Ritches Precision who was dealing the black hole weaponry barrels that are very accurate. I put that on a Savage m10 center feed action, that was a 243. I did have to work the magazine lips to work with the 6.8 cartridge since it was fatter than the .223 and skinnier than the 243 magazine feed. I had a local smith open a 223 bolt head for the 6.8 brass.
This was before 6.8spc, 224 valykrie bolt guns were on the market that would of been easier to convert to 6mm.
I put that into a Savage varmint stock, bipod, sling and a Nikon p5 3.5-14x40 SF, mil dot scope. Total weight 11lbs with a TBAC 30p1 suppressor. This rig is deadly to 600 yards.
My go to handload is Sierra 90g TGK, 29g x8208 in either FC or starline brass. That load runs at 3037 fps over the chrony.
Very little recoil and deadly on coyote to deer.

That sounds sweet! I'm about to sight in my new pronghorn rig for next year. .300 Win Mag. that's 11# 4oz. I'm going to have to practice from bipod, tripod, and sticks for the kind of shot you just made.
