Hey guys, I'm looking for someone who might be willing to fill an "Answerman" role for the website.
I. FORUM Questinos
I'm spending an excessive amount of time, mostly with new Forum members, who call and email me asking for answers on elementary Forum questions, such as:
-- How do I register?
-- What are the answers to the security questions?
-- How do I start a thread?
-- Why can't my [oversize] photos be attached?
-- How do I resize my photos?
-- How do I search threads?
Of course, all these items are covered by existing stickied INFO THREADs, but some people won't read the instructions, or they lack the computer skills to do even basic tasks, such as uploading a photo.
II. General Questions
We also regularly get general questions on gun matters, typically "Can you give me a load for my new .XX caliber rifle", or "what scope/stock/barrel/front rest/4x4 truck/lawnmower should I buy." Honestly, fielding these questions is taking way too much of my time, better spent providing stories, articles, and gear reviews that benefit the site's entire readership. An "Answerman", hopefully, could steer these guys in the right direction.
III. Classified Matters
I am called on regularly to advise Classified sellers/buyers who have problems, again, usually because they have not followed instructions. 95% of the time, these buy/sell issues can be resolved by 1) Waiting 30 days before freaking out; and 2) Sending a certified letter to the problem seller or buyer.
I'm hoping we might have a retired, or semi-retired Forum member, with a calm, patient personality who might be willing to field these calls and emails, and help new members. Some sort of modest $$ "honorarium" could be provided, once we find out how much time is actually involved. This person would also work with me to improve/update our Stickied threads hopefully to make the instructions even more clear.
