Hi Guys, I asked about an 8 twist Hart 6mmbr with "lighter" varmint bullets, and got good advice for 87 Gr V-maxs. Just wondering...does the 8 twist spin the even lighter bullets till they go poof, or can they be used as well? wondering about those 350 yard shots and lighter vmax's. Thanks in advance to anyone who has experience with the 8 twist in a Hart that can tell me.

Not a V-Max,

I've ran 70 grain Ballistic Tips with a 6 Dasher down an 8 twist with no issues.

Too many variables...
It might not just be the twist, could be the thickness of the jacket, style of rifling etc.
You need to try the bullets in your gun - you may find what works in someone elses will not work in your and vise versa.

You may find a 58gr shoots just great in your gun!

Agree completely. There's also the throat issue as fast-twist barrels will usually be generously throated for 95-108s, so light bullets normally have a big jump even with minimal seating depth which won't in itself caused failure, but doesn't do anything for accuracy.

However, I reckon most light 6mm bullets are pretty tough. I've tried 55gn Noslers in my 1-8" Border barrel plus 70gn Sierra BlitzKings, 69gn Bergers, 70gn Sierra MKs and a few other things and am working up to 75-87gn examples. (The barrel is past its best and will be replaced this year, so no great loss in wear and tear.) Nothing has failed, but accuracy is so so by 6BR standards with most loads I've tried so far.

I've regularly used 68 gr. bergers in my 8 twist Hart 6BR without any problems, and excellent groups besides, very close to what I'm getting with both of my 14 twists. 8 twist is a .272" no-turn neck and the 14's are tight fitted at .265".
