Another Marking Tool

An old New Hermes pantograph engraver I rescued from the scrap heap. Luckily it was complete with a couple of boxes of templets and accessories.

You old gents will recognize this tool as the one at the county fairs that was in a little booth where you bought bracelets for you and your girlfriend and watched the attendant engrave the names.

This is a stainless barrel, have to get the light just right to see the engraving well. But, on a blued barrel, it stands out nicely.

I have another rifle build in progress, CrMo barrel. As soon as I blue and engrave the barrel I will post a photo.

I found a Famco p1-2 for sale 15 years ago and it has been ideal for barrel engraving. Could use some more stencil sets, but I do have a good block letter and a decent script set.

I just found a New Hermes last week with three font sets, it works good, $120.00 well spent I think. This is the first thing I tried, it’s my bolt mainspring tool.

Saw an interesting setup on YouTube "Matty's Workshop" for etching metal. Uses a Brother printer, stencil tape and a power supply.

Very slick and clean. Also allowed you to do images and logos. The printer is about $80, tape about $12 and the Power Supply about $50 on Amazon. Seems like it would provide sufficient depth and be very clean way to mark barrels or what ever else you need.
