Another little loading story, this time a 6mm Creedmoor

Painted the stock in my feeble version of camouflage, and overall I like it...

...but only AFTER I got the matte clearcoat on it did I realize it needed more brown.. Maybe tomorrow.

Missed catching this thread earlier.
Enjoying your progress vicariously.

TY.. Will be at Ben Avery tomorrow to shoot 18 trios to complete the last batch I loaded; then will be at Usery Pass range Thursday to shoot more.. I hope to make a choice between the MidwayFactorySecond103s and the NoslerRDF105 so I can concentrate on other stuff.. Still have the Berger 109s, a new (level) scope-mount rail, and a new Burris Veracity 3-15X50 scope on the way so will stay busy. :-)

And shoot I did those 18 groups.. Weather was generally very good but with some gusting winds.. Ended up with a half-dozen 3-shot groups of no larger than 0.6", rejected two bullets I've shot enough to know that they don't work well in my rifle, and selected the excellent LR bullet for my rifle, the Nosler RDF105.. Loaded five more double-trios with finer-graduated powder charges and will be shooting them tomorrow at Usery Pass.. Also loaded five trios of the Berger VLD 95s to see what they do.

Am back to using my NightForce 12-42X56 while waiting for a Burris Veracity 4-20X50. :)

BTW the paint shot very well.

And what a FABULOUS day of shooting at Usery Pass range.. About 60dF, light breezes, left my LabRADAR nome so that I wasn't fooling with it, got all 24 trios shot (all @ 100 yards), shot one bughole and 5 more sub-0.6" groups, met another AS-forum member (WELL-armed with three impressive-looking rifles) who recognized mine, offered a K of my SR primers to another nice fellow who was bemoaning running out of primers, and helped someone find his scope's focus/parallax adjustment, etc..

Found an excellent 'short'-range target bullet, the Berger Boat Tail Target 90* and an excellent long-range bullet, the Berger Long Range Hybid Target109**.

Will be at Ben Avery Wednesday for 3-1/2 hours shooting finer gradations (and different seating depths) of both of the winning Bergers.. Still using the EXCELLENT NightForce 12-42X56 scope and awaiting the Burris Veracity 5-20X50 and zero-MOA mountingplate.

Sure is a fabulous way to spend my retirement savings! ... :D ... :) ... :D

* It won over the Berger VLD Target 95, the Sierra TMK95, and both the Hornady GMXs.
** It won over the MidwayFactorySecond103, the former-winning Nosler RFD105, and the Sierra MK110.

The new 110 Elite Precision arrived today.. Got it cleaned, examined, scope and bipod mounted, etc., and will get it to Usery Pass range tomorrow for site-in and barrel-break-in.

I've tossed those POS-Chinese cheapie bipod legs, which collapsed several times, and have replaced them with a Warne Arca-Swiss-rail type; that works excellently.

Have continued my load-development 'work' and settled on a long, heavy bullet, the Nosler RDF105.. Bought more; Graf's is selling the 500-count box for $151 in threes plus flat $10 shipping.
The long, heavy bullets that did not shoot well IN MY RIFLE are the Berger LRHT109s and MatchKing110s.. (Barrel has 7.5" twist.)

Have only one medium-weight bullet left to try, the Berger BTT90...next time I'm out.

RL19 with cheap 105s was the first and only recipe I tried in my factory 6 Creedmoor. It shoots so well that I have no interest in trying anything else.

Looks like you’re having much fun

I have the exact same Savage 110. H4831sc 105gr Hybrids jumping .060". Shoots very well at 200 yards.

Well...those RFD105s that shot plenty well @ 100 yards did poorly @ 200 yards today, in EXCELLENT weather(1) with about a 2MPH breeze...or perhaps I shot poorly..

I shot two different powder charges--45.0 and 45.2g. of Superformance--and three different shooting depths(2).. OF 10 groups, smallest were 1.3" and two 1.5s; largest were three @ 2.4".. If this were my dad's old Mauser '98 in 8mm, that'd be great, but for this 'high-performance' rifle, that's unacceptable.. (My goal is subhalf-MOA.) With 300 rounds on it(3), I've given up on this barrel and have ordered a new one from Northland, a stainless-steel 26" Criterion in MTU contour. It'll be 0.935" at the muzzle or about 0.050" larger than the Savage original...in 6XC caliber, for which I already have headspace gages, reloading dies, action and barrelnut wrenches, and LOTS of small-primer cases (and primers, too :) ).

So I'll soon have some 6Creed SP cases (StarLine) and dies for sale...probably

(1) We don't talk much about the fabulous weather we have six months a year, we just complain about our six-month summers with daily-high-temps over a hundred dF. ALL summer. :)
(2) Distance from lands means little to me in this rifle, as the cartridge length is limited by the AISC magazines to NMT a tad over 2.8". OALs were 2.81n", 2.80n", and 2.79n".
(3) the cost of which is about equal to that of a new barrel.
