Another Custom Savage

Thanks in large part to this forum, I have been inspired to build my own rifle which I have recently finished. Well, for the most part anyway. It still has the factory .243 barrel and accutrigger, but the plan is to switch to 6BR and add a better trigger. I am still trying to decide between the Sharpshooter Supply and the Rifle Basix. Any input would be appreciated. The purpose would be mainly for F-Class shooting. Not sure if the 12oz minimum of the Sharpshooter trigger would be sufficient, as I am used to lighter triggers on my small bore rifles. The bolt handle and recoil lug are from Sharpshooter Supply. Stock is one of the unfinished bench rest stocks from Brownells. There is a tremendous amount of work involved if you go with one of these stocks.

Amen to that.

Never, never, never, never again.

Good looking rig, for sure.

Finally got this thing out to shoot it today. Only had to wait an hour for it to quit raining and then the wind picked up a bit. Not entirely disappointing though. I'll try again next week with a different scope and some more 105 GR bullets. Wasn't sure how well they would work with the 1 in 9.25" twist. It did seem to like the 87 GR though.

Is that shooting tunnel completely enclosed all the way to the target? What kind of back blast do you get firing into that thing? Last time I tried, well, had to) do something like fire thru a concrete culvert was in the Navy on a reduced course rifle qual. Real PITA being 6'5" trying to shoot kneeling thru a 3' high culvert!

Thanks,

Monte

That picture was taken at a local range that has recently been "updated". The addition of the benches were a welcome change, although they are a bit low to the ground. The concrete tubes are only a short section about 6 feet or so long positioned on each firing line. I do not like shooting through them. It just doesn't feel right, and the sound and feel of the blast does seem a bit amplified. It definitely sounds different. However, it is a public range built and maintained by the DNR. Convenient but not ideal.
