annealing machines/devices...which one?

I like my bench source. The giraud annealer is also nice.

The annealeez is a pita to change calibers this amp unit changes calibers in seconds and has pre programmed times for annealing, that is impressive, the down fall is clearly having to press the button each time and inserting one at time, but no having to mess with open flames is good also

Whoa, just read you can only anneal 75 cases ar a time before an hour cool down for thicker brass on the amp machine

Come on guys! The best machine for someone on a budget at least deserves a mention. It is the DIY "Skip Design" machine and it wins the bang-for-the-buck category by a country mile.

It's precise, has a hopper feed so you load it and just watch it run, can easily be adjusted to accommodate several calibers, and is fun and easy to build for anyone who has ordinary hand tools and access to a small drill press. Some have been built for less than a hundred bucks. Mine cost a little more than that, but I went with some fancy components to cut down build time and added a few bells and whistles like a round counter.

Look HERE for full details, parts lists, plans, hints and tips, etc. Here is a picture of mine.

bench source hands down. you can charge a small fee and do other people a great service and help them save there brass. only thing to do is get a 5lb bottle so you can have better heat control. go to you tube and watch 6.5 boys video. I have some brass with 30 reloads on it and it is still going strong but it is laupa of course.

That is super cool. Well done!

Got my annealeez yesterday and put it to use today. YES! Simple and controllable...heat and time. I dreaded annealing with the torch(propane) and tried MAPP gas which is REALLY HOT and ruined some brass. This machine is worth the very reasonable price. No more varying neck tension!

Freeze the pan that comes with the annealeze. The hot annealed brass will cool quickly. Used my air compressor to speed the cooling...can pick up brass quickly so l can load more. Put the pan on one of those freezer packs helps get brass cooled.

The answer really depends on how often and how much you shoot. I was about to purchase a 500 dollar machine and then realized, I'm not going to anneal every shot (every 3rd shot seems to work just fine), and I really don't shoot as much as I think I do. Anyway, I use the drill, deep socket, torch method and never regretted it. Frankly, for me, a automated machine would see the light of day maybe 4-5 times a year.

Since I'm always messing around and have been looking into induction for a couple years now I finally ordered the parts today. Once they come in and I get everything assembled I should have an induction system that is programmable to the 0."1 of a second. Insert case and hit start. Ill be keeping the automated gas fired unit for .223 . The induction unit will be for 260, 338, and 50bmg where volume is much lower and precision is required. Sure will be nice to have no flame and a precise case annealer.

Nice machine Mozella, can add a parts list for us not so inclined folks?

Google is your friend. Search on "DIY annealing machine" and scroll down to the AR15.com site to see a very long post on the "Skip" design machine. The thread has dimensions, plans, parts lists, parts supply sources, and all sorts of great information.

Thread isn't that easy to find

I love this machine! I need the large caliber conversion kit but cannot find it on his website. I can' t get a Gmail to get thru either. There is no phone to call. Anybody know how I can order the conversion kit?

You fellas are missing out on a great machine that is only $25 more than the Annealeez and IMO light years ahead in engineering. No need to buy "extra" kits to anneal your long or short brass. Check out the MRB Annealer, you'll be glad you did. The rollers are 6061 Aluminum so no scorched or melted Delrin rollers. Takes less than 5 minutes to switch from short brass to long brass, WITHOUT CHANGING ROLLERS!! Contact mike@mikesreloadingbench.com he will introduce you to the particulars about the Annealer.

I couldn't even read his website without getting a headache. Horrible color scheme but the parts of it I did read, it sounds nice.

Yeah, that RED will work on the optic nerve for sure. I got to talk to Mike about that.
To save you from an optic migraine here's a copy of one of the pages from the manual. Does a much better job of explaining than I can.

He's a vastly better machinist than website guru, let me tell you....

My Mike's arrived today & for what he charges he'd better be prepared to ship a bunch. Very well thought out, looks to be indestructible & easy to use. I have ~ 300 6HAGAR brass ready to process in the morning. By hand (drill & socket for ~ 10 years) it'd be 2 hours. With a Mike's maybe what, 15 minutes?

I'm a big fan of my Giraud. It is extremely consistent and convenient. I typically run at least 200 pieces when I anneal, so this style of machine is ideal for me.

Not to stir up a hornets nest, but if you want to see the reason not to do the handheld method, just look at the inconsistent results posted in pictures lately by guys showing off their method. Yikes.
