Annealing Flame issue Part II

I have a Bench Source and used Templaque to learn my set up. The tip of the Blue Flame touching the case is how I set my torches with a 3sec. dwell time. But someone will come along with better information.
When I used my Benchsource, this is where I ended up, with maybe a few tenths of a second more. I never had any issues and, when I upgraded to an AMP, I really didn’t notice a difference. I switched to the AMP to eliminate the open flame, but would not feel handicapped if I had to use the Benchsource again. I just would have to return to annealing in the workshop.

Yes , I resized LC brass and had a lot of scrap to practice on. I did this in the dark looking for the color change in the flame and looking at the Templaque heat range until I felt comfortable about where I needed to be. I feel the double torch heads helps with dwell time but I am new at this. I do lust over the AMP great choice. I did notice the brass was easier to work after being annealing.

COLOR has nothing to do with the annealing process! 6-7 seconds at the tip of the flame is plenty. If you're waiting for the brass to change color you can probably chuck them in the dust bin. What matters is consistency of neck tension. All manufactured brass has different metallurgy so they will vary in their constituent components of copper and zinc. As a previous poster said ambient temperature (and also humidity) will have an effect on dwell time and color. Forget color, what matters is how consistent is the neck tension when you seat your bullets.

Cut flame about 30-50%, w/ torch, time will usually be 4-6 seconds, depending on brass. use 750 degree Tempilaq to determine the time for cases
