Annealing 17 Squirrel cases

NO interest in buying a machine at this time but I may go with an Annie or a AMP I was just wondering what my be an option for that case but thanks for the offer and reply.

Map Gas, rechargeable drill motor, deep socket with steel wool stuffed in the bottom to bring the short/small cases up to the amount sticking out you're after. Fire up the torch with the "regular" tip, set it on it's bottom and adjust the flame to your liking, case in deep socket, put into flame for maybe 3,4 or 5 seconds until it starts changing color. With the torch sitting on it's own, all you have to deal with is getting the case into the flame while turning. When each case is done, drop it in a "dry" pan. No water quench needed. Work in a darkened room so you can see the color change better. Why the Map Gas? Gets hotter faster. Short/small cases will heat pretty fast because of their size so pay attention. Best to use some junk brass at first till you get the hang of it. After that, you'll be an expert.;):D

I currently have a Annealeez but due to the short case I can't seem to get the torch close enough to the case without causing damage to the wheel. It looks like I may not have a lot of options with this extremely shot case other than a drill socket or perhaps a induction annealer.

I was thinking also that a tipped circular one, with orifices pointing to the center of the circle would be sufficient for the 17 Squrriel cartridge also, any input? I know they were made years ago but no idea if there still available, I did look with no luck. Perhaps someone may have one laying around there not using and would consider selling.

No matter what you end up doing, get a good pair of welder's gloves or you'll run out of cuss words.

The MAP gas approach is a good one. Circular tips are made for soldering copper pipe but it may be tough to find one small enough for a .17.

I may have interest in a AMP Annealer system. I know there quite expensive but perhaps I and pick up a used one.
