17 Cal .172 15.5 gr NTX

I use them in 17 hornet, 17 fireball and 17 HMR on all my game and non-game species, due to my communist state (CA) banning lead bullets on hunting. They work great in each cartridge and do a number on game/critters. Very explosive and accurate, with worked up loads as far out as 400 yrds. in the fireball and around 200- 250 in the other two.

AWSOME thanks for that info.
As far as the fireball what load are you using to do the 400 yards

In MY RIFLE, I use two loads. One is 16.3 grs of CFE BLK and the other is 18.3 grs of AA2200. Also use and worked up a chart to give me clicks to dial my scope too, for hits from 100 to 500 yrds.

I'm guessing those are 17 Fireball loads Bill, correct?

In one of my 17 Fireballs I shoot the Hornady NTX 17 cal, 15.5gr over 17.9grs. of CFE BLK.
Awesome on p-dogs even in a light breeze at 4600 fps.

Correct Sherm. Maybe I should have added the cartridge, for others not too miss, but the op asked about in my fireball, so I should not have assumed others saw that.
Then again, as you well know, I hope some who may try my loads, start lower and work up, for safe and sane shooting. Varmint Shooter and I both have shot together, when he lived here and we both have had great success with the 17 fireball out at longer ranges, by dialing the scope.

I've always thought about the 17 Fireball Bill, ive been around a 17MachIV that shoots really well.
I see theres 2.0 gr difference in your fireball loads is CFE blk that much faster than AA2200?

I understand some people have no choice but to use because of lead free. Run the ballistics on the 15.5 and compare it to the 20gr Vmax. You'll see that it doesn't take long for the 20 to be faster down range and you're hitting your target with more splat factor. I've done the numbers for 17WSM and 17HH and the crossover is about 80-100 yards. If anyone has numbers for some of the bigger 17's I'd be curious to see what the crossover point is.
