Annealer, Giraud or Benchsource

I used to drop my cases into water to cool, but just tried dropping them in a glass cooking dish (with a towel to prevent dents) for my last batch. 300 cases worked just fine, so I'll not use water from now on: no need to dry the cases afterwards ....woohoo.

Should be the splitter you are talking about, will hook to a 20lb tank and the 2 "outputs" are the same as the little tanks, just add the hoses listed or these as far as my research shows.

I just bought a Giraud,and so far am happy with it.It was easy to set up,easy to change calibers,and the self feeding hopper is nice. You should not leave it alone,but its nice to be able to do other case prep chores while its running (like using my Giraud trimmer). As someone else stated,the torch is a little sensitive, and I may replace it,someday. Thats a minor deal,and I am getting used to it, so maybe not. Probably no wrong answers here, both machines will work fine. Lightman

I have a Giraud and am very happy. I have done 243, 260 and 50 BMG on it so far. Very well thought out machine.

My buddy bought a bench source a while back. He now has annealer envy.

Not to hijack the thread, but if anyone has a line on a better valve control for the Giraud, please post it so we can check it out. That's the only thing I wish was better on the machine. I love mine.

Look on YouTube for upgrades to the torch control and the feed motor control. When I begin using mine it will have those upgrades since those are the only weaknesses I have seen.

I sold an annealeez and bought an AMP. I like having all cases annealed identically and not having to watch the flame to make sure it stays in adjustment as the tank pressure changes. A better regulator and valve would have helped greatly but I decided to change anyway. I am very satisfied. The downside is single loading but i don't do more than 130 or so at a time, usually around 100 so it does not affect me and it is actually faster (total time from set-up/loading until finished) than the annealeez for a low volume. If I was annealing 300+ cases per setting I would have worked on improving the gas annealer.

From a metallurgical view, water does absolutely nothing to the brass. About the only advantage I can see is you can pick them up without burning your fingers, lol.

I think if I was doing some of the smallest/shortest cases that my Benchsource handles, such as .22 Hornet, I would probably err on the side of being conservative and drop them into water to quickly halt any possible chances of unwanted heat getting down into the head. Those cases aren't really long.

I had 7,500 cases that I used until accuracy deteriorated ( 223, 308, 3006 )
Decided it would be cheaper to anneal than keep buying new cases

Got the Giraud annealer about 2 1/2 years ago and am very happy with it
I am still amazed at the versatility of this machine
I have annealed 50BMG, belted magnums, short magnums, Rimmed cases
( 30 30, 303, 7.62X54R )
I have annealed everything others have brought to me to anneal
some just to see if it could-- it did

Water cooling--
The cases are in the flame for such a small amount of time
( 3 to 8 seconds for big cases ) that cooling with water is not needed
they drop into a cake pan and cool fast

The only problem I have had is the filter screen in the nozzle clogged
( cleaned screen and back in service ) but that was after many many bottles of gas

I highly recommend the Giraud Annealer

Doing this to my Giraud made the machine for me, 3.8 seconds longest any case is in the flame. I believe my anneal is more consistent.
