Angeles BR Range & More

Shooters
Want to let those interested that Angeles Shooting Range is getting ready to build the Angeles Benchrest Range. I have been making it known since last October that the former San Gabriel BR group would relocate to Angeles Shooting Range located in Lake View Terrace. This is in the general area what most know as the San Fernando Valley of So Calif.
It took longer to get started than expected but now we have the engineering company and construction crew to do the work. The contracts have been signed and the plans are being finalized. Our sponsor at Angeles required that the work be completed by this Summer. As soon as the bench construction begins I will revise my previous schedule so that we finish out the year. I will write next years schedule about October. I was the Shoot Director for San Gabriel BR for 11 years and have been asked to continue the role at Angeles BR.
I see I am still on the Competition Page with a couple of Wind Flag threads. I have 15 Threads in the archives that total 30,000+ reads. If you want to read some more material on short range BR highlight my name and you will see all that I gave 6mmBR.
A couple of short announcements. I shot Pala a couple weeks ago. What a kick. The shooting course is 10 silhouettes each at 5 distances, 200-600 M. My first time, I borrowed a .243x6BR, powerful gun used Berger 105 grn bullets. Seemed kinda natural to me I started at 400 then 500 and 600, missed only 1 out of 30. Missed a baby chick at 200 and 2 skinny crows at 300 for a 46x50, 3rd best that day. I like this form of shooting because to do well you need you to have great bench techniques. The same that I always preach to my guys in short range BR. Technique or application is paramount in shooting delivery. It helps you bring home the bacon and the wood. You get 1 sighter shot at each distance and 2 - 4 minute firing periods. You have to go out and set-up and paint what you knocked down. Keeps you hoping, we start again as the last people return. We finished about 1. Search Pala Shooting Range and find a couple web pages.
The Pala group is something I will continue with as it falls at the end of the month and keeps my trigger finger happy. I am having a 6 BR barrel prepared with muzzle brake to put on my recent Cruiser. The muzzle brake is a necessity to allow you to keep your gun in the rest after recoil allowing you to see your target fall and make any sight changes for the next target. Keep in mind the tallest targets are at 600 M. Those being 10 prairie dogs about 9-10 inches tall and about 4 inches wide. You must be precise and compensate for increases and let-ups in the wind. I missed my skinny crows not recognizing a let-up in time. Scopes, 36x and up are desireable. In practice later I dropped several dogs at 600 with my 6x47 Rem using my home brewed 66 grn bullets.
The other item is the NBRSA LR Nats in Reno. They are in June, I can get the date later.
That's all I got. If I feel enthused I will write again, if not it's not. I have my own Web page and 100 shooters I write memos to so I'm not lonely.

Talking to Ron Cottriel today we got more good news about the Angeles BR Range. Ron made arrangements with a company in Texas to build our overhead. The dimensions will be around 125' long and 30' wide to cover the shooting benches and cover the smallbore shooters.
I finished my updated Conceptual Drawing of the Range layout and will be giving Ron his copies Friday. Trying to get the remaining maintenance money from the shooters and order the name plates for the benches. I have 37 names so far will take 40 if we go with 20 benches. Ron might try for 24 benches. I will write the schedule for the months left in 2007 when I see the benches being built. Hope to be shooting by August. Contact me in this Thread if you want more info.
