And before it got windy.

Different ranch tonight and it was just about perfect for this female. Came flying into p-dog distress. Daylight bright again with a full glaring blazing white moon, BUT no wind like the other night, well that was until we dropped her and then it went from 5 mph to full force (storm front coming in). By the time we loaded her in the truck the winds said it was time to go home.
Weather report was off by 6 hrs, storm came in a lot earlier.

Love the detailed stories and photos-keep them coming.

I know that the coyotes are a real issue to live stock and other species, but was curious, what do you do with them afterwards?
I give them all to a trapper pal that puts them up & let him keep all proceeds. The mangy ones get left in a dead pile with the ears cut off for the bounty.

Thanks very much for sharing. I am glad that where possible they are not being wasted.

I was watching a special with the wife the other night on Wolves and the diseases they carry that is transmitted through their feces. It is an airborne spore that can cause cysts on internal organs. They cautioned people to not disturb the feces on the ground as it releases these spores. It can infect animals and humans alike. They also indicated that the coyotes also carry this virus.

One segment discussed that wolves have either driven out or killed most all the elk and deer in Yosemite. In fact, it has become so bad for them, that deer and elk will seek refuge in domestic cattle herds from wolves and coyotes.

Thanks very much to the environmentalists that re-introduced these predators to the wild.

This doesn't bode well for us trapper types. We've been known to collect the scat and cart it around to use at our trap sites!!

Surely you mean Yellowstone ? Elk not native to Yosemite and there haven't been any wolves for over a hundred years.

Yes Yellowstone., I keep doing that for some reason. And a correction, they have found a few elk still in the park, but there are no more moose. It is believed that those which were not killed have moved North into Montana. At least this is what the special we watched said
I believe that all these book smart individuals believe they know what they are doing a good deed, but they don't get it that nature is a balancing act and most often we tend to mess it up.
Just my opinion.

Sorry I hate typing on my phone. Too much fat fingering.

talking about wolfs going after pets... i live in a pretty open area... with plenty of coyotes... let the dog out the other night at 1:30... opened door up .. he went out ... he hit the yard and i started hearing howling ran to window and sure enough... several out in the field... got him called back in quickly, as i have heard of a few stories in the area about them luring dogs out in the field and the pack closes in and kills them.. ( not happening to mine) .. i ran in got my gun... slowly crept out... got one... ( i do not own a suppressor )... may have rolled my wife and kid out of bed... but it was worth it... as my dog is just another kid to me...
