An argument with a Chargemaster

My dream is to fill my chargemaster with tannerite and blow that spawn of satan into oblivion!!

I've gone to throwing charges in my Harrell's and cutting my blood pressure level and time charging cases dramatically.
I love my powder measures for pistol and 223

I bit the bullet an got a V3, worth every penny, I had the Hornandy auto charge that was more hassle than the RCBS before that.

Exactly, my V1 with the Ingenuity trickler system never misses a beat if you want to only go for a tenth… The A&D 120i weighs to .02 of a grain… = one granule of varget…
The ingenuity trickler system not only increases the speed of the charge but has virtually eliminated any over/under throw. Also a feature of the A&D and any other “high end” scale is if you want to weigh primers… Just set it to grams and it weighs to .001g and that will seperate the high and lows of a batch of primers and is quick in doing it with only a pair of 6” tweezers to place and remove the primer. I will say that I will not be using Ingenuity’s primer sorting device that utilises the trickler function as I feel that it is a system that could result in a KaBluey right in your face if a primer goes off in a cup full of others…!!
Like many others, I’m still waiting for that happy day email saying that my order for the whole system is ready to ship…. Nothing wrong with the original AutoTrickler that is now wearing all the A419 upgrades in machined aluminium to get rid of all the original plastic printed parts and it will be an easy sell to ease the pain of stepping up to “The Latest System”… Words of a tool tragic… Will I shoot better? No, but I will load faster… {:~)

Changing the way the powder falls into the scale has no affect on the resolution of the scale.
With a tuned CM, it is very possible to sneak into intended charge, right to the kernel.
This, the same as pretty much any other reloading scale, digital or otherwise.
You have to learn how to use ANY scale, regardless of resolution.

Am I missing something.
The RCBS Chargemasters are only as accurate as the scale.

Changing the way the powder falls into the scale has no affect on the resolution of the scale.
It eliminates overthrows by avoiding clumping and allows the scale to register the weight more accurately when only 1 or 2 kernels is hitting the pan at a time and at a steady rate, vs clumps of 4-5+ kernels at various intervals.

My modified chargemaster has a verified tolerance on throws of +/- .04gr, and thats using long extruded kernel powder for large magnum rifles. Small ball powder is even more accurate.

Learning proper use of any tool is more important that blaming it for problems created by the operator. Whatta Hobby!

You are partially correct. The scale is limited in measuring a given weight by the display resolution. However, the internal electronics and bridge are capable of greater resolution. The dispenser on the other hand in the 1500 and some others has issues with throwing very small weights of powder. It limits the trickle resolution. It creates overthrows. You can also get under throws when the trickling throws a heavy charge when first starting the trickle because the scale overshoots setpoint and actual weight doesn't settle back before the control locks on the settling weight.

My 1500 threw 28 charges for a 25.4 gr setting and the results were Mean 25.397 gr, SD of 0.04gr, Max of 25.46, Min of 25.32 gr and ES of 0.14 gr. The confidence interval (95%) for this test gives a range of 25.38 to 25.41 gr. This means that if an infinite number of 28 samples were tested 95% of the means would fall between those values.

The Min of 25.32 is an example of an early trickle charge that was so big the settling time wasn't long enough and the electronics was within the weight tolerance.

Which insert are you folks using? I tried the straw trick, which helped with certain powders but seemed to hurt with others. I also tried a cutoff shoulder and neck from a .243 case too. I might go back to that for the time being. I did monkey with the settings to slow it down some. It's always the last "bump" that takes it over. Is there a setting to increase time between "bumps". I think that might help a lot.
Try a 5/16 brass fitting from an auto parts store. One time deal. Tommy Mc

Picked up a RCBS Chargemaster a few years back. Plugged it in, watched it "hunt" for ZERO for about 20 minutes before I put it back in the box, posted it FOR SALE and sold it to someone that wanted it more than I did. Funny that my 505 never did that and the batteries never went dead.
Kinda like that bore scope that keeps telling me that my barrel is junk and that 5 shot group that can be covered with a dime it keeps producing is a figment of my imagination.:oops:

I cut the end of a 243 case off about 3/8" below the shoulder. Also use the straw. BUT there needs to be programming changes on the 1500 to get good results.
