An Apology to Berger Customers

Eric, I read the thread you were referring to. You were being charitable when you called the gentleman in question a "know it all". A more accurate description would be a pompous, self important troll. You don't owe anyone an apology but it's to your credit that you offered one. That shows integrity.

"If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs and there is no quiet..."

I have no idea or knowledge of the thread you are talking about. However, when someone stands up and admits to having some culpability, when it may not be warranted, takes a man of substantial character.. Thank You for your response and the honesty of "making a mistake"... I am glad there are still businessmen with honesty and integrity still in business! Thanks again..

Benjamin Steinsholt

I agree with Ben.

And I understand that sometimes we all get baited by know-it-alls. It is very difficult in such situations to hold back and to help me pull back I remember something my father told me: "Never argue with a fool, passersby's main not be able to tell who is who." That usually works for me.

Eric - I can understand how a know-it-all keyboard rodeo rider can get under your skin. That happens because you have passion for your company and your products.

The simple truth is that Berger bullets are incredible and that only happens because the people that make them care about every aspect of production, packaging, delivery as well as product development/refinement. I have seen the evolution of Berger Bullets from the time Walt used to stand behind a single counter at the SHOT show with a few boxes of hand made bullets and limited calibers, to today where you guys are running three shifts and making dozens of calibers and delivering millions of high quality bullets that dominate the matches and National records.

Plus, Berger helps the shooting industry by spending tens of thousands of dollars sponsoring events, US Teams and supporting our sport.

All I can say is WELL DONE!

Seems about one percent of those posting and responding are the only ones that do everything right and those who differ pay the price by being scolded publicly. Many folks just "go away" after getting reamed by the internet "know it all". Seems you somehow felt it necessary to protect the image of yourself and that of Berger Bullets. Your product, customer service and overall benefit to the shooting community is lost on no one here. You are among the very best. I wish more companies emulated your ethos.

After reading the relevant discussions on Snipershide and Long Range Hunting I was left with two observations. First, Michael Courtney is not a "cretin" or an "idiot" and anyone calling him that needs to do a little research before they engage their fingers on the keyboard. Second, from reading those threads I learned a lot that I otherwise would not have by not reading them.

Finally, and most importantly, there would be no need for this thread if the parties involved would have followed one simple rule and that is: When you are asked a simple question, simply answer it.

I too was obviously not paying close enough attention to have seen the original thread in question.

Cudos to Eric for posting a well thought out explanation to this situation.

Phil.

After being in the shooting game for 65 years or so.....the only thing I've found to be really 'iron-clad' is that when a rifle fires....there is RECOIL!

As long as I can do this pretty regular shooting Berger bullets....I'll buy them! My only gripe is that THEY'RE LIKED TOO DAMN WELL because I quite often can't find any!!

Don't sweat the small stuff Eric!!

The proof is in the pudding, forum shake downs are for computer commandos not stewards of the sport.. Carry on making good bullets sir..

Definitely not necessary...I did catch that thread and Bryan made him look like the tool he is.

Keep doing what you're doing and don't let these people who obviously have an agenda against y'all win.

Good point. I should have used the terms "obnoxious" and "overbearing" instead.

Thank you for pointing out my poor grammar. I really should have used adjectives in the first place. Silly me! ;D ;D

I appreciate the comments and support. As I relayed, this is something that had to be said for those who shoot Berger and for myself.

One point of clarification is that our efforts toward providing accurate data shooters can use to hit targets and increasing our output capacity are pursued by different people so one effort doesn't slow or affect the other.

I am pleased that we are making twice as many bullets today as we were making 3 years ago. I am proud that during this increase in production we have been able to maintain our quality to Walt's standards.

Even though the number of orders we are receiving lately are down from the latest demand surge (which is admitteldy a relief), we are still building more machines to expand our capacity further.

We are in the process right now of adding machines to each of the operational departments (jackets, cores and bullet assembly). We will continue this effort until we get to the point where Bergers are regularly found on the shelf.

One other item is that I've cancelled the hold that we had on the development of new bullets. This won't amount to much in the coming months but what it does affect is getting the effort to make the 7mm 195 gr Hybrid EOL bullet rolling again. It will take time but the good news is that we are making progress rather than delberately putting this effort on hold.

Regards,
Eric

Great news on both counts, Eric. Thank you.

Like many of the other posters, I missed the actual controversy, which I take to be something on the order of the creationist vs. the scientist. BTW-I am for the scientist. Still, this all stirs my memory a bit and reminds me of the "high BC flat base bullet" marketed by Berger some time ago, I believe in Mr. Stecker's absence. Possibly we could now learn something about this discontinued bullet--was it too advanced for the times? I used it-liked it--then poof! Then again--what would my new barrel think of them? Hopefully my two newer favs, the column 6mm and the 115 gr. .30 cal FB will stay in the catalog a lot longer.

BTW, Mr. Stecker, if this is the worst thing you have ever done in business, you will dwell with the warriors in Valhalla in the next life--or the angels-- or get 40 houris or whatever..........

I don't think an apology is necessary or an apology necessary to the person that called you out about this issue. Some people are just always looking for some reason to stir up excrement. Life is too short to worry about these in the minority. It doesn't matter, because they don't matter. Berger Bullets have a great product Thank you for that.

I wish the powder manufacturers had the same drive & attitude. I used to do a little bit of component hunting and a lot of shooting. Now, I do a lot of component hunting and a little bit of shooting.
