Ammo and Powder storage

wasnt there an article posted on one of the forums about how nasa stored their gun powder in large canisters in out outdoor storage unit for long periods of time? I know I have had ammo stored in outside containers for years and it definitely shoots fine for blasting, but cant say I have shot precision ammo stored that way. M2ball seems to handle such storage perfectly fine. :-)

definitely a proponent of storage in a climate controlled unit, but thats not always feasible.

A COOL AND DRY place. Even though i live in Arizona my storage area never exceeds 73 degrees with 10% humidity.

The Military stores Powder under water. If you sniff any 8208 you will get a distinct aroma of Acetone. That is used to evaporate the water when the powder is pulled from under water storage.
When the M2 Ball and 223 ammo reaches an expiration date it goes to pull down. Thats where the Military Brass and Powder comes from. The powder doesn't go to the powder manufacturers , it goes to Thunder Bird Cartridge,Powder Valley or some of the other suppliers. Highest bidder Wins.

So storing primers in a hot garage is a no no?
From SAAMI:

Modern primers will not absorb moisture under normal or even severe conditions of atmospheric humidity. There is no advantage to be gained from air-tight containers. They should be kept dry and not exposed to high temperatures (in excess of 150 degrees F). If exposed to wet conditions or high temperatures, they may deteriorate, yielding mis-fires or poor ignition.
