Am I off base with this one?

Might I point out that there is advertising on this site? All sites are going to have advertising, it pays the bills.

Im going to be 50 this year and I am with you guys that don't do social media (FB,Snapchat,Twitter etc.) of any kind. Never had any interest nor ambitions to do it.

Its as silly as Selfies.

Sadly, I think WE are an endangered species.

I just received an email from Graf's offering the opportunity to win a reloading system IF you do something on either FaceBook, Twitter or Instagram.
I immediately wrote them back and said I choose NOT to participate in anything like these sites and why not some other means to enter without putting all my info on the web for any and every yahoo to see.
Yeah, I realize it is their shop and they can choose to structure the giveaway anyway they want but they are shutting out what I think is a sizable portion of their customer base who do not use social media.
Am I just letting my crotchety old man side of me take over?
What say ye?

Gary
I am with you. What did Graf come back with?

I am 81 this month. I joined Social Media and was amazed at how much better my life became. Smaller groups, higher scores, longer shot kills, better sex, on and on on on on on ad infinum

Harumph! Well now, looks like I'll have to reconsider. I wonder if "Its in the Ones" is a valid user name.:p:D

Lessons to be learned......
Social media leads to social disease.
Some unimportant person a few posts ago misspelled grouchiness.
Where's my coffee? It's easy to recognize; it's black, unsweetened, and hot, it's on the table near MY seat.
You better not be smiling right now.

It's an electronic way to network and contect with hundreds and thousands of people...that is driving us apart and causing less face to face conversation with people we know and don't know.

A buddy of mine just hauled a load of seedcorn across the state on I-80 and said channel 19 on the CB was dead as a doornail. Nobody on there cautioning about the wreck ahead, or if the scale was open, or the trooper in the median up ahead.

Or something like that...

Chris
I believe CB has died out. You don't see antennas on cars and trucks like you did 20 years ago.

If this is in reply to my post, I'm fine with advertising. It pays the bills. I just won't the the pawn that creates the advertising in exchange for some prize that may or may not exist and the odds of me ever winning are even worse than lottery tickets. --Jerry

Sometimes they run a give away to get your contact for sales they have coming out. It is not always a bad thing. Sometimes the sale prices are really cheap, especially on closeouts. Matt

I will never be a part of social media, I would not have my iPhone but work bought it for me and told me I had to have it. I was really happy with my Star Trek phone.
I quit the costly and continual upgrading (can you spell sucker?) When I tossed my bag phone in a dumpster and never looked back. ...................... Right on! Mr. Tucker

I thought I was the only one!!!! I feel liberated!!! Curmudgeons UNITE!!!!!! I drown my cell phone right after retiring from law enforcement. After twenty years of EVERYONE being able to reach me, now no one can!! Dropped that puppy right in the river while casting to a rising brown trout. Felt better than a take on a dry fly!

I only haunt this place and now I know why....we are all anti-facebook and anti-social media!! Wooo hooo

You stodgy old bastards need to get with the program. How are ya going to know when your dead beat brother in law needs a loan -- or how to cure ED with common mold that grows in your fridge.

We are in fact social media right here, and might as well own up to it. And I'm sure that my forum fellows don't mind reading my drivel, seeing my ancient pics, and hearing how my favorite SKS will shoot sub-MOA -- wait for it --
ALL DAY LONG!! :);):p jd

I don't doubt the MOA all day long but that's only if "you do your part". :D And I don't mind the drivel but good grief, it seems like some members are on her 24/7, hogging bandwidth and snagging all the good deals. Cripes, don't they have jobs??:p

(Uh, no)

As previously mentioned I dont do social media but, I do search a lot on the net as far as topics.
Came up with the difference being discussed. Believe it or not LOL.

Good description, with any of them though you control your participation levels. I have FB, and belong to long range shooting groups and really do nothing other than that but chat, nothing personal, you control that also.
I must say, I admire those that refuse to go that route, lol.
It works in my lifestyle so real big deal. I have no clue what twitter and rest of them consist of.

Social Networks are like topic tables at a conference luncheon. Ever been to a conference where different lunch tables had big white signs inviting people to sit and join others of like interest? It’s like that. Social networks allow members to organize around a person’s relationships or interests, rather that just focused on topic. People that know each other (or want to meet each other) will connect by a variety of common interests. These are great tools to get people of like interest to connect to each other and share information.

Forums are like social mixers, where everyone is at equal level, milling about and discussing with others. These many to many communication tools allow anyone to start a topic and anyone to respond to one. Members are often at equal level, and content is usually segmented by topic. (rather than by people).

Good description.

This is why I like AS.com. The only thing not mentioned in the forum description above as it relates to Accurate Shooter is our nuanced topic that requires a bit more knowledge than many other sites. It tends to "self-police" keeping the topics generally informative and helpful. And then there is JD and his SKS...we really need to teach him how to shoot better cause I am certain that SKS can do it "all week long". :):p
