Am I off base with this one?

I just received an email from Graf's offering the opportunity to win a reloading system IF you do something on either FaceBook, Twitter or Instagram.
I immediately wrote them back and said I choose NOT to participate in anything like these sites and why not some other means to enter without putting all my info on the web for any and every yahoo to see.
Yeah, I realize it is their shop and they can choose to structure the giveaway anyway they want but they are shutting out what I think is a sizable portion of their customer base who do not use social media.
Am I just letting my crotchety old man side of me take over?
What say ye?

Gary

I'm with ya. I felt the same way when they started putting key-lock ignition switches on automobiles.:p
I've gotta say, that I finally joined The Facebook, and it has greatly increased my collection of cute cat pics. jd

im with zero, im 30 and was on social media for a bit but got tired of everything that goes along with it.. my wife is on it enough for both of us i tell her. when she says i should get it so she can tag me in post. I just tell her i dont need to be tagged i know i was there and so do you. Dont miss it a bit ( how ever im pb on here lurking around and reading almost as much as her on face book :rolleyes:)

WHATS SOCIAL MEDIA ?
It's an electronic way to network and contect with hundreds and thousands of people...that is driving us apart and causing less face to face conversation with people we know and don't know.

A buddy of mine just hauled a load of seedcorn across the state on I-80 and said channel 19 on the CB was dead as a doornail. Nobody on there cautioning about the wreck ahead, or if the scale was open, or the trooper in the median up ahead.

Or something like that...

Chris

I guess any social media has some validity. My pard at my shop is in charge of "I.T."o_O at the shop. We use face book to let customers know about upcoming CC courses and Range safety reminders, match shoots, ect. He does it, I don't.
For the most part what people post is ridiculous. Include me with with the grouchy ol man bunch as I care not that the dog pooped on the floor, your vacation pics or when the baby woke you up. My wife says I have found my social outlet on a few gun boards with other grouches:cool:

Yes, indeed you are on social media now. A bit different from facebook but still would be considered social media only with guns. At one time I said " I don't need a computer" , now it's the 2nd thing turned on after the Kuerig. I would be lost without it but I have no use of telling the world that I'm going on vacation so some low life can break into my house.

In a comment closer to the original post, social media is basically free advertising if someone posts a positive remark about your product. It can also go the other way if some bozo who doesn't have a clue and is too smart to ask instructions "if they choose not to read them" rants about how your product is a POS. A 2 bladed sword but if you make a good product, the word gets out much faster. Look at a couple of the newer start up barrel makers who were selling barrels on ebay for about half of the $$ to get people to try them. Now they are 3-4 months behind. That's due in large part because of sites such as this one because they certainly don't have the budget to do national advertising.

Social Media is an advertising location. They get to advertise. I don't waste my time with these advertising gigs no matter where they are. --Jerry
