The project is a 30BR, I've had a 7mmBR Redding FL Type-S Bushing die opened up to .338 to accomidate the 30 cal neck. I bought the Redding tapered expander,6mm to 30cal), which I installed on the decapping rod, and am using it to expand the 6mm neck,Lapua brass) to 30 cal. I do not have the neck sizer bushing installed at this point. ,I was very pleasently suprized how easily the necks expanded from 6mm to 30 cal - so far I haven't lost a case yet, and they're coming out pretty straight)
Then I take the case, and run it over a 30 cal K&M Expandiron to prep for outside neck turning.
At this point I'm trimming the case to length,1.50"), then using a K&M outside neck turning tool to machine the donut off.,did this to the first 50 cases so far.)
I removed the 30 cal tapered expander from the decapping rod, and installed the 0.328" neck bushing. ,I've got a 0.3325" neck, loaded rounds should be 0.330, correct?) Then I sized the case, and seated a bullet, and it measured 0.332, and would tightly push into the barrel. I then turned the neck down to just over 0.010", re-neck sized, seated a new bullet, and ended up with a 0.330" neck. The case slides fully into the chamber with very minimal resistance, I'm thinking it might be due to the necks not being perfectly straight, and that fireforming will fix that.
Am I doing anything wrong at this point?
With the Redding bushing die set-up, will I ever use an expander ball on these cases? ,the dies came with a 7mm expander ball - do I need to keep the 6mm to 30 cal expander in there in the future?)
At this point, with the necks turned to reach my 0.330" loaded neck diameter, I'm thinking that I'm ready to prime, fill with powder, seat and shoot?
