30br case prep question

On the 30br page, it calls for me to size it up to 30 cal before I start turning the case. I already turn cases for my 6br, can I turn those cases to .10 then size it up to 30 cal? Will it compromise the case neck if I do?

remeber that part of the shoulder becomes part of the new neck

you cannot turn into the shoulder of the 6BR case far enough to cover all the area that becomes new neck.

I find that using the redding tapered expander upto .30 cal is the easiest way of making 30 BR cases and then neck turn

If you already have a neck turner unit a new set of expander and turning mandrels in .30 cal isn't going to cost you many $$

The part of the shoulder that becomes the new neck is one of the main reasons to have to neck turn the brass-- it makes quite a large donut in the neck.

My chamber is a .336 neck- much bigger than the Robbnett,sp?) spec reamer- I can shoot just necked up brass without neck turning and the donut will be forced into the inside of the neck.
If you want to load the projectile into just the area that was the old 6mm neck area you will be ok if your chamber neck allows- but it's really not the best way of getting a well performing 30 BR

I only turn enough off my necks to get rid of the donut and a maybe a 10% clean up

I end up with a loaded round range of .330 and .331 with 125 TNT's
and use a .327 neck bushing on fired brass- giving me approx 3 thou neck tension

This is the exatct reason I wanted to ask. I did not remember,or pay attention might be a better word for it) the amount of the shoulder that becomes the neck, but that makes perfect sense to me. I guess the best thing for me to do is to go ahead and get the 6mm-30cal expander for my K&M, and then get the 30 cal Carbide neck mandrel. Then I will need to take an afternoon and get after it.
