Aluminum butt plate finish

I hate making these with a passion. By the time the shaping is done and it's time to polish them, I'm about at the end of my patience. I was at that point yesterday when I remembered my bag of Cratex sticks.

Good shootin' :) -Al

Very nice Al...

I try to simplify it as much as possible...straight sides and a jig for the rotary table for the top and edge rounds.

But I've got a lot more weight to work with in LRBR than you do in SRBR....3" rudder on this one.

I dislike the polishing the most...

Mike, that looks good. I've got some from the race shop. The next one I do will vet one.
I'm like you and really don't like making butt plates...it's just part of the job. Carbon fiber is way easier and it can save a little weight in cases where a little bit matters. That one still looks kinda rough at this stage but they look good when done. You can scuff and clear it too. I'll find a pic of one finished and on a rifle...
haven't found a pic yet but I will later.
