alteenitives to varget

That has not been my experience testing it in 6.5 Creedmoor/140gr and 135gr projectiles. On the burn rate chart I have consulted, Varget is a ways towards the hotter end compared to IMR4451. H4350 and IMR 4451 are very close.

I presume that 4166 was intended; but you.know what happens when we assume...

I'm nearly out of my current batch of Varget so I'm torn between buying more or using up my existing powder stock, which is way too large to be sensable. I've had good results with 105gr Bergers, both VLD and Hybrids, using CFE-223 and Vihtavuori N-140. IMR 4895, VV N-540, and IMR 4895 gave some good test results as well as some good results in competition, but were a little less consistent than Varget, sometimes producing disappointing results which may or may not have been the fault of the powder.

I think Bamban is right.
Awhile ago when Varget was un-obtainium, I got a lb of IMR4320 for my 6BRX.
Turned out QL thinks they are nearly identical and performance of shot with Varget and equal load of 4320 shot the same with, if any, slight improvement with 4320.
As an aside, it seems to trickle with my little yellow wonder easier than Varget as it is easier to get exact 1 granule adjustments.

Has anyone else tried 4166? It's given me some promising results. And it seems to be in stock about everywhere, around here anyway. Burned very cleanly in the rifle I tried it in. WD

I've only used it fireforming so far but have had amazing results in two rifles. These are forming at 300 yards.

I decided to give 4320 a try in a 223 with 80s.

It gave better velocity and accuracy than did Varget. Not to mention it meters better.

It's certainly a forgotten powder.
