Alpha Munitions 6mm Dasher brass

Guys I’ve been reloading cartridges since 1948 and won quite a few matches when I was shooting NRA highpower so I think my bonafides are in order. I would like an answer as to how I can get a CCI450 primer that measures 0.117” in depth to fit into a primer pocket depth of 0.105” ??? Should I employ a big hammer or what?? I was told NOT to ream said pockets out!!

Here are the minimum and maximum dimensions for primers:

Are you positive that the depth is 0.105" as opposed to another dimension? I can admit to making small mistakes on rare occasions...:oops:;)

Have you called and spoken to someone in a position of knowing the answer to your question at Alpha? If not, call them and discuss your problem. It sounds like out of spec brass?

I will never put another piece of Alpha Munitions brass in my rifles.

Their customer service is as bad as their brass.

This is just my opinion from a very bad, expensive experience. Do what you want with it.

My depth gage isn't wrong I'm pretty certain and yes.....it is as stated!

Short answer:

Two case ruptures and $1000 in rifle damage. Same rifle, same load, same barrel, but different brass is problem free and has been for tens of thousands of rounds.
You do realize that cases with different head stamps can have significantly different volumes?

Their primer pockets open up because their brass is too soft at the case head.
Lapua formed to dasher goes through a soft firing or two to get formed. If you soft fire Alpha once or twice, it does the same thing, that is, work harden.

As far as the difficulty in seating a primer, yes, it takes a firing to loosen a bit so that you can seat easily. At the same time, it’s hardening like lapua as it distorts.

I’ve pushed this stuff pretty hard and haven’t had issues. Bad luck on messing up your rifles. Through 3 lots of this stuff and haven’t had a hiccup.

It is chamfered, however. My original point stands. Take a K&M uniformer and see how much material is removed.

Primer pocket uniform cutter will cut them to the proper depth.
Yes it does. However, it starts removing a significant amount of material at the beginning and progressively removes more as you go deeper. With my Lapua brass shot 3x after fireforming, no material was removed. I've repeated this test with both brass makers' virgin brass and multiple times fired.

Zero issues with Alpha Dasher brass here. The primers did make for a good workout the first time thru but not on subsequent loading.
Also, case volume on Alpha brass was very different from Lapua so I started with .7 less powder and found my same node using right at .5 less than with Lapua.
I also recognize the reality that properly formed and cared for 6 Dasher made from Lapua brass just seems to outlast even the Energizer Bunny. I don't see Alpha's version being able to do that.
