Almost too pretty to shoot

Doing a little experimenting tonight. Was told you could get some neat color schemes by mixing some powder coats so mixed some Carolina Blue and some jet black. Also baked them with my toaster oven air fryer feature and well dang tings are almost too pretty to shoot lol ! :D

Great looking bullets before and after PC.
Cpl questions.
What do you typically see for diameter before and after PC?
Based on added PC thickness what do you shoot for on size vs bore?
When do you size, before - after or both.

I started doing cast again and PC'd my bullets for the first time. I got the PC to work beautifully but unfortunately the rifle and cartridge I was working with did not yeild the results I wanted so starting over. With the sizing I tried several scenarios and ended up with an initial size and then a very light secondary size after PC. I ended up .0015 on average over the bore with the PC after sizing.
I would welcome advice and like to see your accuracy results.

Beautiful job Wolfdog! I mixed Eastwood sea foam green and gloss black for these bullets. 350 grain 45/70 on the left and 278 grain 375 on the right. Cast using Accurate Molds. When I first started messing with powder coating 10+ years ago everybody was saying leave them in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. I’ve since learned that leaving them in for 30 minutes results in a more uniform flow. I size all of my cast bullets .002 over bore so that they get their final sizing on their trip down the bore. I seem to get the best accuracy that way. Keep up the great work! Lotsa fun ain’t it?

I know you are asking wolfdog but I size both before and after PC but I guess what each gun likes determines that. Many over on castboolits use Smoke's (Smoke4320) powder coat as it has all been tested and proven to work even in shake and bake methods. Emails is smoke@paintballkingdom.com

Thank you. I forgot to address the sizing question. I size after powder coating. I have some of Smoke’s stuff and it’s top notch. I just lean towards Eastwood cause they’re about a 40 minute drive from me. They’re both excellent quality products. I just dump the bullets loose into an old Lyman tumbler and add the powder, let it do its thing for 15-20 minutes then dump into a sifter to knock off the excess powder. If you individually hand stack the bullets on the non-stick aluminum foil like I do don’t forget the nitrile gloves. Very important.

I already run his powder and I like it. I have a good system now but with the PC there are more things to think about based on sizing. I am probably overthinking and with my next try accuracy may come right out of the gate. Who knows.
Thanks for the response.

Okay . I'm going to show my total lack of knowledge here , but the only stupid question , is the one not asked .

Is there any special issues created for cleaning the barrel when this is done ?

If you keep the velocity in cast bullet range, None to less than cast wax lubed, at least has been my experience

They say not to shoot cast or coated unless you have all the copper out of the barrel. As of right now all my cast are shot from guns that started out life with a diet of cast.

So honestly I have really sat down and measure many bullets at all as far as diameter goes. I have to cheap igauging calipers so honestly I'm not sure how precise I could be, think that's more where you want a micrometer. As far as sizing I size before and after PC. Mainly because it seems when I gas check before coating my bullets are more accurate, best I can guess is a coated bullets has more variation and won't let the gas check sit just right and since the butt is what steers the bullet .... One being a little cocked to the left one to the right ect due to differences in PC thickness on the base could definitely cause problems. Also they can just be a pain to get the checks to go on. Noise all this when I started casting with .223 and .22 hornet and just carried it on to the bigger stuff. More and more km happier I went the "hard way" by casting small stuff and trying to go higher velocity as my first casting experience.
As far as size to bore , honestly I'm usually going .002 over instead of one . From all the reding I've done the guys who get the best accuracy are usually going bigger then "normal" that being said I used the NOE sizing system so I can go very incrementally. The sizing bushings for their sizer are like $7 a pop so I'll have everything from say .313-.316 and just size batch's in .001 incriminates and just see what works.
With all that being said I'm a major amateur with this stuff compared to some on this forum

Man those look good @Wolfdog91. I wish mine came out that good. I have yet to use any gas check bullets. My fastest is 44mag but I was gifted some GC bullets for my 22 k Hornet.
Found out running the air fryer feature on my oven for the first five or so minutes to where the pain starts to flow and shine then dropping it down to 350-375 for 25-30 min is key to t pretty look

IF ITS DONE RIGHT , not really well at least for what most people consider I know some of y'all bench rest types probably wouldn't be happy with something ( no offense just noticed the more precision guys are extremely anal and what I consider squeaky clean would still look like hot garbage to many in this sphere) lol.
My hornet has been fed nothing but gas checked powder coated bullets and when I bore scoped it the barrel was pretty dang shiny
Now that being said if you have some barrels like some of my guns have or you have a crappy PC job....yeahhh it's gonna be a little ugly

The question was asked because I had absolutely no knowledge of this practice , and wanted to gain knowledge about it . And BTW ; I'm not one of those BR guys , either .
