It is a long action Savage with an Adams and Bennet sporter tube. Being a 14 twist barrel it has shot many bullets very well, way better than expected but alas the several thousand rounds sent down the tube has done her in. The heaviest bullet shot in it has been the 60 grain flat based Hornady HP. Very good accuracy and took several deer with it. My favorite bullets for coyote hunting have been just about any of the 50 grain bullets and the 52 grain Speer HP. I used the 55 gr. NBT's but found they can be very destructive which doesn't really matter much here in Texas but in Wyoming the pelts can be worth a few bucks. At any rate I want to go back with a somewhat heavier contour and possibly move to a 12 twist. I am thinking of using a "light Palma" contour as a balance of a bit more weight up front and adding 2" of barrel going from 24" to 26". The rifle has been my specified coyote rifle in the past but have played with the 243 and 223 some since it has been put on the reserve list. Seems I really like the 22-250 as a coyote rifle. I don't want to fast twist it because I like to use and have plenty of old style soft point bullets in the 45 to 60 grain weights. Shots I will take will be from very close to no more than 400 yards if there isn't much wind. Is there anything wrong with the light Palma contour? Or would a Heavy Sporter contour be just as good?
