Back in June all the stars aligned and I managed to stumble blindly into a tune that held out for 5 targets. The agg was range measured at .1342. The current hv100 yd world record is.1340. The targets were submitted to the nbrsa record committee to be officially measured. Unfortunately for myself, the official measurement came back as .1493, so .0153 larger than the record agg. As explained to me for official measurements, a caliper is zeroed on a single bullet hole on the sighter and the targets are measured with that zero. On the first target’s sighter, the 6mm bullet burned a hole measuring .222 and that became the standard the groups were measured with. The range uses an etched .2430 reticle on a caliper which explains the difference in measurements. A perfectly tuned rifle just prints a tiny hole compared to an out of tune one. The committee president told me that the range measurements were amazingly consistent (Amanda at St. Louis benchrest range does a great job). Next match, the action came unglued and at the following match I had issues and put the scope on a checker and it had reticle shift of a half a bullet @ 100yds. I’ve heard it said that a perfect engine will blow up 50 ft past the finish line and my rifle and scope gave me all it had apparently. I didn’t set a world record or even a range record, but I beat some of the best in the world in that yardage and I’m damn proud of it even though I’m pretty sure they all whooped me the next day. This is a great sport!
